I recently had the pleasure of visiting The Philippines Bakery in Riccarton, and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience. It was my first time at a Filipino bakery, and I was initially drawn in by the incredible aroma wafting through the air as I passed by. I couldn't resist, so I waited until they opened and decided to give it a try.
I started with two sweet onion small pastries and a pork bun. Both were absolutely flawless. The delicate balance of sweetness from the onion pastries and the savory richness of the pork bun were a completely new and exciting flavor experience for me. It was so good that I had to return.
Today, I treated myself to two of their pork buns again, and they did not disappoint. The buns are light, fluffy, and incredibly fresh, filled with perfectly seasoned, tender pulled pork. They are truly a must-try!
I also grabbed two flavors of steam buns, along with the sauce that came highly recommended the friendly and helpful staff. Once again, I was blown away. The steam buns were soft, airy pockets of delicious dough, packed with a generous portion of succulent, flavorful meat. The sauce provided the perfect complement to each bite, enhancing the overall taste.
I will definitely be coming back. The food is beyond incredible, and I feel honored to experience a part of Filipino culture through these wonderful flavors. If you haven’t been yet, you’re...
Read moreThe custard donut is literally the best thing ever, the donut is very soft, my sister and I compared the donut (the custard one specifically) to another Filipino bakery and it is by far much better in terms of texture, taste and price, it costs $3.50 while the other Filipino bakery costed us $5.50 I think the original price was 2.50 but increased to 3.50 but honestly I’m not complaining considering it’s still cheaper and tastes really good. The ensaymada (6pack) was also really good, the bread is probably the softest bread I’ve tasted compared to other bakeries out there. I think in terms of taste and price its a 5 star, however there are multiple times when we bought the custard donut, and it was not properly cooked in the middle, one time we bought 3 because we love them but we got really unlucky and didn’t get a good batch, we ended up throwing it all away because it was inedible, but regardless after a few months we came back to see if its improved and it was well cooked and tasted really good, still softer than ever and still cheap (cheaper than other Filipino bakeries) i see they are opening up a new branch, I am very excited to see this open...
Read moreWhat I love about this bakery is that their breads always hit close to home. It's literally the breads you can see and eat from a traditional bakery in the Philippines. Everything tastes the same! I live on the other side of town but I don't mind driving to Papanui for their breads. I definitely love the choco ensaymada, and always buy a bulk whenever I come in. Very weird of me but I don't usually eat the pork bun fillings as it kind of tasted off to me when I buy it somewhere else but when it comes to their siopao, only the paper wrapper is left lol. Hope they'll expand to...
