Sime's Kitchen — Restaurant in Kaikōura

We saw this place on the way back to our accommodation after our trip out on the ocean Whale watching. We thought that it could possibly be OK, but experience has taught us that recommendation from locals is valuable, so we decided to ask at the reception desk where we are staying, they offered up a couple of places and Sims's was one of them. We were greater by a cheerful young lady from Germany, who told us about the specials and explained the other dishes that were available. I ordered the beef cheaks, served with mustard infused mashed potatoes and crispy kale, the slow cooed beef was succulent, tender and oh so very tasty, the whole dish was excellently executed, thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful! My wife had the ham hock eggs Bene, and the children ordered the fried chicken, I also ordered a side dish of truffled pecorrino fries and some corn bread (G/F) Both the food and service make this establishment a worthwhile...

Fantastic! We stop here for a break on the trip to Chch - lovely service, delicious AND wholesome food, I hear the coffee is great too. Sam also did some catering for us. For my mothers 70th birthday we did a seafood BBQ, and I wanted to keep it simple, so Simes did 3 amazing salads (potato, asian noodle and green). They were full of goodies (so many 1/4 avocados etc!), lovely flavours and generous portions. The salad bowls were lovely and supplied by Simes - beautifully presented. Also a fruit salad and ginger slice for the dessert which were fantastic, again full of lovely goodies and wholesome. This was definitely one of the cafes that I would come back to in Kaikōura. The environment is very nice and good for talking and the food was superb. Sadly, I don’t have photos but I ordered the halloumi cheese burger with bacon and my mom ordered the Korean fried chicken. Sadly I feel like if there was one more chef it would be nice as the food could come out a tiny bit faster but I understand that the financial situation isn’t really the best right now so I really think this deserves 5 stars.
