Asian Taste — Restaurant in Kaikōura

We’ve been in NZ for 7 months and had some of the best Malaysian food in all of NZ at Lily’s shop. More than that, she was warm and beyond generous - when she found out we’re living in a van, she gifted us an extra packet of blue pea rice for our dinner and a fried egg with our lunch for free. Her prices are some of the most value for money we’ve seen here, especially for the generous portion sizes. She’s been here 11 years, and shared that business has been tough lately especially since her stall is just off the Main Street. We sat by her stall having our lunch and in the span of 30 mins saw how loved she is by the community, people coming by to grab lunch or have a chat. Few months ago, Went there for the first and last time , ordered braised pork rice but the lady said no braised egg so I asked the lady whether can she change that to something else but rejected me impatiently but that’s still fine . after I finished the meal she suddenly told me to clean the table properly and said here is not my country (I didn’t leave a mess at all) and she start complaining about people in my country saying we always leave a mess in the restaurant or food stall IN FRONT OF A LOCAL. I did felt racism and disrespected by her extremely bad service

Great Malaysian Roti bread. Mince, cheese and sauces on a bread. Really good! $8 only for a lot of flavour! If you like spicy you can ask for Lily her special homemade hot sauce. I also had the chickennugget on rice WAUW. Lily makes the bather/cothing herself and the same for the chickenburger.
