The food was ok (meat and fish not bad, but the miso soup was horrible).

But I really didn’t feel like they care at all about the customers.

I say this for several reasons. For one, they do not even have gluten free soy sauce to offer customers who request it. How hard is that to have? If you cared about serving people then you would know some people want to eat Japanese food but can’t use regular soy sauce. Also, we were two adults and a 3 year old. The wait for our food was at least 30 mins, probably longer. The server brought out food for the adults, and it took literally 15 more minutes for the other food to come. If you actually cared about the people you are serving, you might either a) acknowledge that must be tough for a toddler to wait so long, especially when other people’s food had already arrived, or b), make sure everyone at a table gets their food at roughly the same time. When we cancelled the “starter” we had ordered when it still hadn’t come at the end of our meal, they had to check to see if it had been started being made to see if we could cancel. If you cared about the people you are serving you would understand why we wouldn’t still want this other food and offer to cancel.

Save your time and money and...

I ordered over the phone for katsu chicken udon and a teriyaki chicken meal. I knew the girl on the phone couldn't properly speak/understand english. So I repeated myself at least three times. We got there and my boyfriend grabbed the order and when we got home and opened it, it was wrong. They gave us some sort of curry, so I rang them up and said what had happened. And they said they were sorry and that they would remake the orders, which I was happy with. When we got there my boyfriend went in again, and they said they girl that picked up my phone call said I definitely said curry. I would have never ever used the word curry? I'm a fluent very well spoken kiwi. However because they thought I was the one in the wrong this meant that they didn't make our order properly the second time either, it was a sloppy job and they didn't even give us our miso soup either which was included in the meal and what we paid for. And they left our order on the floor but the door because they didn't want to hand it to us. We were avid customers who would visit or get takeaways from them at least every other week. Never ever going again,...

The four of us were first to arrive for dinner service. Menus were so grubby to touch, these need updating. The tempura was fried in old oil, evident in taste and colour. Service was poor - they had evidently forgotten our sushi order, but when asked about it they quickly made an excuse that sushi takes longer to make compared to cooked food. Fair enough, we thought. A request for water for the table was met with five bored servers pointing to the self-service water fountain. We'd finished our meal (and so had others at other tables) by the time the sushi roll finally came out. Disappointingly, the rice was warm and fell apart, not seasoned at all, and the processed crab meat and little smears of avocado left much to be desired. To make matters worse, the young server knocked over a glass of sake and didn't acknowledge this or offer to clean it up or replace the spilled drink. Simple standards for quality of food and service are...

Narita - Wairau Valley. First Japanese restaurant that lacked in service big time compared to what I’m use to in the city and out south. I have been here years ago and service was great. That’s why I revisited while I was in the area, but sadly this time it wasn’t as welcoming. I had to initiate everything because I wasn’t sure if my order was going to be taken at the table or if I needed to go up to the counter. Waited a bit too long while looking at the menu and decided to go up instead. I get annoyed if you ask if I’m taking away when I place an order. Like EXCUSE me SIR, I’m obviously here to eat in 🤦🏽‍♀️ + paid straightaway. Haha maybe it’s because I’m a big brown gal lol 😂. An Asian couple walked in and was greeted + menu was given with order taken not long after at their table. Sigh!. Anyhow, interior is nice and clean. Food is okay, miso was bland. Everything else was enjoyable. This Unagi meal set was $36.90.

My mother and I had lunch here. We had 2x bento meals it was average compared to other Japanese meals I had before. Waitresses were polite. Over all, good but my only concern was over clean utensils at this place ( I am very big on hygiene & cleanliness especially with food). The fork we requested was not properly washed there was old dried up pieces of rice stuck on the fork if you have a good eye for it. I understand they were busy with other customers but we were sitting close to the kitchen entrance & front counter and we had to ask for the 2nd time for our forks we ended up almost finished the meals without fork because we have been forgotten (lol). I think I would prefer to dine in an authentic Japanese owned restaurant next time.

Narita was once our favorite Japanese restaurant with the hearty greetings from the staff when you walk in and wish you farewell as you leave. Sadly that ambience is gone with new management. The chefs used to prepare the meals behind the counter and we love watching them at work. That's also gone now. So we now have a standard bland Japanese restaurant serving reasonably ok food. The Tonkatsu ramen was ok but I have seen better presentation than what I had today. The gyoza was plated on oil stained paper and looked terrible. Overall the food is ok but I just wish they know how to plate the dishes properly.
