Had the Lamb Shank to take away and ohhhh-my-gosh!! Amazing! Stayed overnight in Picton, thinking the food pickings would be slim, but come across this gem, food was ready within 25mins, ordered via phone - service was great! Food was tasty, couldn't believe my luck that not only did they have what I wanted, but it was the best meal I've eaten on the Sth Island. The Hotel I stayed in didn't have cutlery, but it didn't matter, I was able to eat the Lamb Shank with a teaspoon, it just fell off the bone, generous on the gravy, perfect amount of veggies and mash. Was very disappointing! The pizza came out pretty much not cooked, with only a thin slither of meat on each piece, Garlic bread came out after the pizza and was so burnt that it was not edible. The staff weren't very friendly and clearly did not want to be there. We seen at the end a sign at the counter that said the wood fired oven is currently not operating. No one told us this so might be an idea in future to tell the staff to let customers know before you end up with so many bad reviews that you lose all your business. Went to the newly opened restaurant Scoozi this afternoon on a locals recommendation. We ordered the quattro formaggi pizza and truffle parm fries, split between three people. Firstly I was pleasantly surprised by the substantial amount of fries we got followed by the best pizza I’ve eaten out in NZ. The roaring log burning pie oven is one of the first things I noticed walking in which is choice because the wood imparts flavour into the pizzas you can’t get with gas.
