The Goodhome Marlborough — Restaurant in Marlborough

So disappointed. We'd come from out of town for the VW Nationals and knew the Good Home in Auckland as a great place. This one, however, left us wanting. The manager was rude and barked at us demanding to know what we wanted to drink. Didnt build rapport or even ask if we were there for dinner. Once we got drinks, he ignored us. A bit stunned, we found menus and a seat. We had to ask for cutlery. The roast vegetable salad was a pile of barely roasted carrots, three pieces of parsnip, and a bit of Pumpkin on top of rocket. The sauces were presented in disposable takeaway containers, the cutlery was dirty. The ribs came with a few baby carrots, mashed potato and a small drizzle of gravy. Really not value for money. There was no ambiance. The lights were too bright, sad music, and the big screens had a "no signal". It was half empty yet the manager rushed around moving things from one place to another and back again. The only positive was the lovely young barman and sweet waitress who cleared our table. We wanted more drinks and dessert but did not really feel welcome or comfortable so...

Not as good as my last visit a few years ago. This time apparently they were super busy or had staff issues or some reason I didn't quite get. Walked in (alone) was ignored. OK staff were busy, but a nod or word to acknowledge they'd seen me would have made me feel a tad welcome. Esp as a sign says please Wait to be seated. Thought I might be waiting at the wrong place. Had to interrupt staff to get seated. They were apologetic. Thought I'd better sit where they could see me so I didn't get forgotten. Ordering etc was all good. Food came out - vege burger - on a lunch plate. So many kumara chips and not much room to move without throwing food all over the place. Food was rather dry and mostly carbs. as were a lot of menu choices. Pretty sure the food was more imaginative and better cooked on my previous visit. Waited to pay. Staff were at the bar but again I wasn't acknowledged....

Unfortunate experience at Good Home tonight with a large group of 8 families. The night started well, the vibe of the place was good. Our family was first to order and more than an hour after that order still hadn't received a thing. Half our group had eaten and left (post gym competition celebration, so not a late night). Rather than owning up to the stuff up, the manager delivered our meals, after we'd followed up twice with no attempt to apologize, no offer of any recompense or even a drink, only a 'we were slammed'. ... but you managed to serve everyone else in our group 30 mins ago... Food was average. Another in our party ordered a vegetarian platter and was given two bowls of olives and a salad for $30. Attitude and poor training of staff to manage situations like this badly let...
