Matakana Patisserie — Restaurant in Rodney

We had lunch here last week.

I had a steak and mushroom pie which was okay apart from just a little too much pepper. Otherwise it was good, the pastry was fine and the quantity of the filling was excellent.

My wife had a BLT which she loved, plenty of filling, and a good quantity of potato chips supplied with the meal.

One first class comment, is that they do not salt the chips, which means you can add how much salt you need yourself if any, also they supply the tomato sauce free with your meal, another nice touch.

The inside of the cafe could do with a tidy up, as it is a quite tired.

Great value for the price.

The long black Altura coffee is as good if not better than most other cafés offer, however it does depend on which operator prepares it.

Therefore definitely worth a visit.

Their selection of cabinet food is great, as is the selection of their meat pies, this should satisfy...

If I could give a negative rating to this place I would. My wife and I had visited the excellent Saturday Market in Matakana, but had got separated. My wife (a visitor to NZ) popped in and asked (as you would) if she could use the wifi as she was separated from me (her husband) and needed to let me know where she was. She was told by the staff member, very bluntly, that she couldn't use the wifi unless she purchased something. This is , in essence, blackmail. My wife was not going to give in to that. Without any doubt, this was the single most unpleasant experience we've had in NZ, which, up until today (3 weeks for us) has been welcoming and a joy to be in. I visited again yesterday. They make the best coffee in Matakana. If you like steak pies, their steak and Guinness pies are nothing short of fabulous.
