Ashraf's — Restaurant in South Island

Arrived just outside this restaurant at 8:17 PM, just few minutes ago before writing this review. No timing said on google listing of operating hours. Lady from restaurant closed the door just we approached outside, with the sign saying “Sorry we are Closed”. Checked images listed on google listing and found they operate from 5PM-9PM. Lady could have addressed us to either enter, since that’s enough time to manage another customer till 9PM, or say we are closing, or whatever. Think they don’t want our business and appreciation in tough times like COVID where tourists are already...

As a local I am ashamed to admit I had never been here until now and wow I was a fool.

Small family run Indian restaurant with the BEST curries in Wanaka if not the South Island.

My partner and I are hot heads (spicy not psychotic) and enjoy a vindaloo on the regular but I have NEVER had such a flavourful curry

The onion Bhaji while looks odd (compared to my usual bhaji experience) it is incredible and not over bartered.

The homely vibe with mum & dad cooked meals is a must when visiting wanaka especially in the colder months

Came for dinner and they were full inside, there was only one person serving. She asked us to wait for 20 minutes outside, which was fine, and we took a menu. When our table was ready and we ordered she said they had run out of all the starters aside from one. It was before 8pm so how did they run out of all the food? And why not tell us this when we were waiting outside for so long? In the end we ordered the lamb rogan josh and this was not great. The lamb was tough and the sauce was made sweet with sugar.
