Archway Motels & Chalets — Hotel in South Island

First time in NZ for our family and we chose Wanaka for our 25th Wedding Anniversary. I’ll say straight up that Archway Motels turned out to be the best possible location for us to stay our one night, and with the friendly greeting from the owner/manager Mark we knew it was going to be a great stay.|While the Archway site is very close to central Wanaka, it’s a really short walk (~6 or 7 minutes?) from town which gives you the best of both worlds - proximity to the town and a peaceful location set back from the road.|Wanaka is awesome and our anniversary meal at The Spice House was stunning. The town has a lovely lakeside ambience with plenty to choose from for food and drink.|As for our room we had booked a family unit several months ago and it lived up to the expectation with neat and compact layout but plenty of room for the four of us to relax, and a quality and nicely fitted bathroom which was lovely. An unexpected surprise was the brand new LG television and we were able to access entertainment apps as well as TV channels.|All up we had great stay and in dealing with a minor issue Mark was super kind and helpful to us in resolving the matter. I'm not sure where all the 5-star reviews come from - I feel a bit duped by reserving based on them. I would say this place is average, but certainly not anything special. We've been traveling all over the South Island so have a pretty good read on the different motels. This was mostly clean, the bed was reasonably comfortable. ||But it's obviously dated. The windows are old and open based on a metal rod that you have to prop (there is no a/c). It was hot while we were here so needed to open them to get any kind of air flowing. But there are these super bright lights on in the parking lot which the bed directly faces. I'm not from the city so it's difficult for me to sleep with bright lights on through the night. So we had to draw the blinds and suffer with the stuffiness.||Also, there is a fair amount of road noise from the main road and with the windows open, you can definitely hear it.||The staff seems quite nice, but in the end it's the room that matters and it was just so so and I probably wouldn't...

We had such a fantastic stay at the archway motels I don’t have anything bad to say about the place. From calling to make the booking the hosts were so welcoming and nothing was an issue. When we arrived to check in we were warmly welcomed in by fantastic staff and our son loved the look of the playground (where he spent a lot of time during our stay) our room was very well equipped with everything that we could have needed during our stay. The rooms were sparkling clean and very well maintained. There is some work going on at the motels my son thought this was fantastic and he loved waking up in the morning and watching them work, even the builders/roofers were lovely.
