AVOID AT ALL COST Never wrote a review so i'll go in depth with this one; in the hopes that no weary traveller need ever deal with their BS. (I sincerely feel for the business owner who hires any staff that can cause such reputation damage. Almost lost yourself $1k+ worth of seasonal revenue.)
Mr Moustache with the North-American accent is the epitome of an apathetic employee. Made an online booking for 7 consecutive days with an elected 2 day rest period, followed the steps outlined clearly on their websites and arrived in store.
Upon my confirmation of the rental return date, this employee immediately tried to dishonour my booking by stating that i need to return my rentals half-way thru. After explaining that this was infeasible due to our pre-determined location 2 hrs away, he cited that 'the store is busy' and that he couldn't care less. He was well aware of the contradictions between what was advertised and even mildly tried to bully me with false and misleading advertisement - all the whilst maintaining his stand-offish attitude with zero interest in customer service.
I persisted on the service i paid for, and i gave him every chance to explain to me and my 4 additional co-travellers who all hired at the same time.
He conceded; but not without further condescending statements i thought i'd never hear as a customer.
Plenty of competition in Queenstown, who will actually care about servicing their customers with dignity and providing a product...
Read moreThe prices that my girlfriend and I locked in were very competitive so we were happy about that. I wouldn’t recommend getting the beginner gear because the equipment is quite outdated and my girlfriend struggled to get in and out of her skies without assistance. We had them adjusted slightly up on the hill but still were not great. I on the other hand got the next level up and they were a lot better quality so it’s best to just pay a little bit more so you are not disappointed. Unfortunately for my girlfriend she picked up someone else’s ski poles after completing a lesson. When returning the ones she picked up Quest charged us an additional $40 for the lost poles. We took the poles that we picked up back to Green Toad and hoped that ours had been returned by chance but unfortunately they hadn’t. They informed me that they wouldn’t normally charge for lost poles especially when we had a set we mistakenly picked up. They said that poles come and go so they would expect them to be returned at some stage. In the end I paid the $40 because I couldn’t be bothered arguing. I would have thought these poles would be worth next to nothing given their age and amount of use but it is what it is. Lesson learned don’t pick up someone else’s poles and be ready to be charged additional amounts by Quest even if you have another companies poles which you...
Read moreI had terrible experience with Quest. There are much better stores in Queenstown for ski rental, and I’ll explain why. Their rental has limited selection. The skis offered are outdated and in a very poor condition. Since I was in a time crunch, I still rented skis from Quest for only 1 day in July this year (2023). At The Remarkables it was sunny all day and on-piste conditions were excellent. Since the conditions off-piste were not so good, I stayed on-piste all day and left early to avoid traffic jam. By the way, I’ve been skiing in Europe and North America for almost 50 years, so I know how to keep it safe and how to avoid obstacles to keep equipment in a good shape. When I returned skis, Quest found a 1mm x 1mm dent in plastic behind steel edges and charged me $60 for the repairs that was more than the cost of the original rental and perhaps more than a residual value of the skis. The dent was so small that I could not tell if it was there, but it certainly was within the scope of a regular ski maintenance. In any case I did not feel any customer care, I was under impression that they goal was to make as much as possible out of a customer...
