Neptune Cafe & Bar — Restaurant in Waitematā

Went there last night, New Years Eve arrived at 6.15. Tried to order one of two dark beers available first choice run out, so ordered second I ordered a small bottle of bubbles only to be told after sometime of waiting for the drinks that they had no small bottles or a glass of any bubbles I would have to buy a big bottle. So I ordered a cocktail this came in a plastic beer glass no decoration and looked and tasted nothing like what I ordered. I actually sent it back. However, then I find that someone else ordered a small bottle of bubble's and they got a bottle, when I asked why the waitress told me, that she too had been told there was none and I would have to buy a big bottle

My husband ordered a second beer, waited another 15 mins only to be told not before we had to ask where it was, that they had more more of that beer, remember this is new years eve at 6.45pm by this point. Do no bubbles and no dark beer. Unreal. We ordered an entree and when we were just finishing this, the waitress asked if we wanted our mains, we expressed that we wanted to wait a while for the main and we would let them know when we wanted it. However as the table was cleared our main meal arrived straight away. We voiced our disappointment and from there the excuses started coming thick and fast and if this was enough then the chef arrived at our table yelling and screaming at us. Extremely unprofessional, they offered no alternative for drinks that weren't available, never offered me a small bottle bubbles when they clearly had some. Had two different waitresses and neither knew what that other was going they didn't know their menu you had to point out it on menu. They said they had been in business for 18 years, so clearly in 18 years they haven't learnt much about communication or beverage requirements in that time. I don't know any other place in that location, they would run out of alcohol by 6.15pm on New Years Eve. It was a disgusting experience. It is one time I begrudgingly paid for a poor experience and very average meal. Nothing good to review and regret we went there in the first place. AMAZING FOOD & LOVELY SERVICE ❤️

I arrived in Auckland at the beginning of October as a solo backpacker coming from Canada. I was walking around the wharf trying to find a place for a drink to enjoy the sunset and views and came across Neptune! I was welcomed and greeted with so much happiness and friendliness from the owners daughter and she helped me pick out some cocktails and cider to have for my first official night in NZ.

This place is super under rated! I’ve been there several times now and they have delicious food and great service!! I will definitely be back for more! They really care about the quality of their food and the service they provide.

As for the bad reviews on here, every restaurant gets busy and it’s hard to give everyone the absolute best service possible when it gets like that. I’m a server and bartender back home and think as a family run business they give everything they can to all of their guests. Don’t let one bad experience ruin your opinion of this place. Super adorable décor and cozy for date nights!! Deffo recommend...

Absolutely terrible. Ordered a lamb shank. Found a large piece of plastic in the gravy at the end of the meal that got lodged in the roof of my mouth. Pointed this out to the owner and she quickly said no charge, though my wallet was out and I was prepared to pay as I know accidents can happen. Went back a week later and she told me that I would have to pay as there were no more free meals. She insinuated that I had put it there. I definitely did not, I am an honest, person. She then told me in front of all the other customers that the chef had said he would not prepare a meal unless I paid up front. I tried to explain to her that I would not do anything like that. She just kept talking over me and accusingly insinuating that I had done this. I was so upset. Rang her the next day to discuss the situation, again she would not listen, kept talking over me. In the end I hung up. She is extremely rude and I would definitely say stay away from this...
