As my ratings are always a reminder to myself on whether I'd visit again, in this case I probably won't jump to it, but I'm not saying anyone else won't like it. Sails had been on my list for years and finally got to go with a group of colleagues. I immediately liked the interior lights, bar aesthetic, and the 'infinity' waterfront look (thanks to the mirror walls). Table seating was spacious, set nicely, and everything atmosphere wise was great. Service was mostly attentive but the downside to it was orders were taken from each person in such a rush that before you could even finish saying which plate you wanted, our waiter was on to the next person before you could request another side or a drink. As for the food, haha I honestly wish I ate mostly just the entrees and desserts bc the focaccia bread was AMAZING and the fries (I didn't ever think of ordering fries at a place like this but luckily someone else did). Cocktails were also a nice selection (particularly fruity sweet for me haha). But as for the mains, for me personally they were a bit underwhelming (tried both pork cheek and someone else's crayfish tail with scallops) - I left with more of a FOMO feeling by looking at the juicy red venison someone else had ordered. As for desserts, again I was so torn between multiple items (creme brulee with apples and the mint chocolate drink caught my eyes) but settled with the baked cookie dough with ice cream. It was still good, very fresh and warm, and would even have considered ordering it a second time but I think I still had it in my mind, like the rest of the night, "Would there have been something better I should have gotten instead?" Overall theme for everything.

Visiting family in Auckland and celebrating husband’s birthday over a long weekend I wanted to take him somewhere special and this restaurant had so many positive reviews I thought we should give it a try. Our table for 2 was hard up against a window with a lovely view of the boat filled harbour, but next to a large and noisy table. Requesting to be moved was not an issue and this was done swiftly and without fuss. We started with 6 delicious oysters, followed by pan fried scallops with pancetta on a bed of cauliflower purée, and the prawn entree in a rich nduja sauce. We then both had half a crayfish each, one mornay and one with hollandaise sauce on the side. Fantastic, cooked perfectly, fresh and flavoursome. We had confit carrots with labne to accompany the crayfish. Ok so my view on this restaurant…when I first arrived I had some misgivings, I thought I’d walked into a cruise ship catering to loud baby boomers, being a boomer myself this isn’t a criticism, merely an observation. The tablecloths could have done with a press and they should consider laminating the menus which looked as though they’d been rough handled over time, just fixing these two would immediately elevate the overall experience and be worthy of this business. Clearly this place has a great loyal following and it deserves it, the food is fantastic, the staff attentive and enthusiastic and the value for money unsurpassed…coupled with an outstanding location this makes it a winner. Just needs a little tidy up but really, I’m saying this more for them than my being picky…we will be back and I totally recommend it!

We had a great time at Sails, I've heard a lot about this restaurant from NewsTalk and the anchor Layton talking up the place over the years. My sister booked for the 4 of us to enjoy a birthday dinner. From the start the service was amazing, attentive and great. The drinks arrived and were a great start to the night. The food, we tried 4 different appetisers - scallops, seared tuna, arancini & prawns. The serving size was perfect and tasted amazing. The mains we had a mix of market fish (snapper with lemon risotto), King salmon & surf & turf. The mains were a great portion size and again the flavours were on point the fish was cooked great, the salmon was also delicious and the csurf and turf disappeared quickly. For dessert I got a suprise birthday petite four plate decorated with happy birthday which was a great touch. The pavlova was not too sweet, I had the creme brulee which was also balanced nicely with the set and tart. The Whittakers brownie disappeared soo quickly it must have been delicious. We had great wine suggestions and the views into the harbour and the bridge was just the right touch. You can just bet we'll be back!

We had the pleasure of receiving actual quality hospitality. Old school classic dining service . Lovely to really made to feel welcome and as valued as much as any VIP customers. None of our extrodrodanary requests were declined. Over all it was refreshing to experience a sense that our dining experience was enjoyable no request seemed too much to ask . On THE whole we left feeling that the occasion we were celerbrating was extremely important to us and all the staff gave us the sincerest sense that they genuinely cared and devoted to ensuring that our dining experience was was ganeented to be cherished as one of the most magical evening of first class service that created an air of romantic moments a pleasant experience we valued having our special evening treated as through it was equally as important to the invite staff that we were made to feel that our enjoyment mattered and were left more satisfied than we thought possible to acheive. Our expectations were exceeded ten fold. Top marks to management and of course the whole kitchen , bar and restaurant floor staf, each of the seperate individual sections worked together as one very organized team with very high standards and a great day of true professionalism and commitment loyalty dedication and first class service to the establishment which all the staff appeared to have a deep desire to deliver their best with a real visible element of healthy pride for what they each contribute as a valued member of a well trained well organized extemly skilled and tallented team all working together with the same single aim in their heart's and minds. To produce a level of excellence worthy of being recognised as equal to any first class world renowned fine dining restaurant. . . It was a pleasure and a true joy seeing a whole team of people working togther happily supporting each other regardless of which department they represent. It was as if they saw the other departments of the restarunt as though they were all equal to each other all as important to making sure the ideal of working together creates unity and a unit or family who care and share the same aim working hard to ensure they succeed at archiving and maintaining the leve standard of excellent hospitality service. Resulting in the rewarding feeling that comes from satisfying the passion a person only truely has when that person is doing what they know is what their heart desires which is the only job that will ever bring real inner joy and result in that individual knowing fulfilment in the career they chose to persue. We have wittnesed staff who work alright and manage to deliver what the roll the are responsible for it relied on to perform. But hardly ever does one get to see all the staff working together with the same passion of achieving the same purpose a harmonious functioning organized successful business that always produces the quilty experience that the owners of the company dreamt of creating. That special element that makes their establishment stand apart from other companies. If management continue to employ workers who want to be part of a team with something truely special .then we believe that Sails will continue to have something that sets them in a class of thier own . Well done the restaurant manager. I take my hat off to being able to put a team of talented individuals together who work like true champions in their field. Honestly...

I was taken there by my boss for a farewell dinner and with her high reputation she decided your place was the right place. With its 180° wide view of the sea, it was really fancy and with the crowded atmosphere on Sunday night it was going to be a fancy night. However..We ordered some of the starter and the plates we we were served were from Kmart , plates that were $2 but to my surprise even most of starter is over $20. This Doesn't suit Kmart plates for expensive dishes. From the Starter to the main dishes , we waited more than HALF AND HOUR and the table is was cold and NO ONE SERVED US during that time until we had to say something or mention what was going on with our food . The Main dish arrived and we ordered one of meat dish as medium rare but got medium. Also we ordered side dishes with the main dishes and we waited for it to come but our plate was almost done, we had to ask what was going on and they forgot so we canceled. One of us was a pure Vegetarian and he had no option on the menus and he couldn’t really enjoy anything from your menu , something i think you should consider when making a menu . Actually having what is on the menu , like askin for lobster on the menu but then saying they don’t have lobster just snapper , and also considering variety of people’s diet these days We couldn't enjoy our special farewell dinner night at your restaurant since you obviously forgot about us and didn’t care . , overall really poor customer service seeing as it’s a high rank of New Zealand “ Restaurants “ on google , also feeling racially ousted as being an Asian Woman with Asian friends and ridiculous prices for plates served by 2 dollar plates from K Mart . I wish there was half a star but then I don’t think you...
