My partner and I had come here for the past almost 8-9 years. Everytime we came in the past we always had the best experience, best food, best SERVICE most of all. One time years ago, my partner and I were in JANDALS, shorts and singlet and altho they had a dress code, they still agreed to serve us but outside. Now even though we weren't dressed for it (spontaneous lunch) they still treated us like humans and gave us great service. They didn't look down on us and treat us like we were a dumb, young couple. So we hadn't been in a few years bc of life (covid, settling into new jobs etc) and we are now both young professionals. My partner even owns his own business, yet when we decided to come back again the service was horrible. Firstly, the Filipino lady, manager, whatever was so condescending. Why even be in a customer facing, service based job if you hate people? Or maybe she just hated us bc we just finished work and weren't dressed as fancy as the other customers. Don't judge us on how we look, lady. Just bc we chose not to dress fancy you treat us like were below all the other customers? Not to mention she snatched my partners Christmas gift voucher out of his hand while paying bc it had $200 limit and she got mad and said we should have told her in the first place. OK.... lol. Yet the other customers she was so happy and smiling. Wth? Honestly. Why even be in a customer facing job then? Also, we hadn't been there in a few years so my partner asked if they still had the bone marrow on the menu and she SCOFFED, gave us a face like "omg look at these peasants" and said to us "ugh, no we don't have bone marrow" in a condescending tone. I wish I could make this up but I can't even stop thinking about how annoyed I am by her after 2 days. None of that experience was worth $230+ at all. And just bc we we used a gift voucher doesn't mean we don't have money, LADY. It was a Christmas gift and we DO have the money to spend. We've been spending it at Jervois steak house for 8-9 years thank you very much. You weren't even staff at rhe restaurant and we were going there so keep your snide looks and comments to yourself. Terrible experience. Have already told friends and family this place has gone down the toilet (which is extremely disappointing)

My partner and I visited Jervois Steakhouse on a busy Friday around 1:45pm—and from the moment we walked in, we knew we were in good hands. The ambience is warm and inviting with classic steakhouse charm—leather chairs, rich brown tones, curated art, and a glowing fireplace that adds just the right touch of comfort to the upstairs space. Now let’s cut to the chase—the steaks? Absolutely divine. Absolutely worth the price. We shared the mighty 800g T-Bone and a perfectly marbled Scotch Steak. Both were cooked to perfection and packed with deep, satisfying flavor. The hollandaise and mushroom sauces were the clear standouts—rich, velvety, and the perfect complement to the steaks. But the real surprise? The Wagyu fat roasted kumara. Sweet, smoky, and finished with whiskey caramel, pecan, and feta—it stole the show. Honestly, it might be one of the best sides I’ve ever had. The potato gratin and seasonal greens were also excellent, but that kumara… unforgettable. We paired everything with a couple of bold reds that brought it all together. Dessert was a crème brûlée and a classic affogato—simple, satisfying, and just the right finish. Service was outstanding—genuinely warm, knowledgeable, and perfectly timed despite the lunch rush. Our waiter went above and beyond to make sure that we were comfortable. His recommendations were also excellent! In short: top-tier food, flawless service, and an atmosphere that feels effortlessly polished. We left full, happy, and already planning our return.

A disappointment! Return visit to a restaurant we enjoyed to celebrate my son’s 30th birthday only be let down by poor service and uninspired food. Food - Entrees good although unacceptably small bread portions to accompany liver parfait and burrata. Mains $87 for a finger thick flat almost minute steak. No plating effort at all. Just a slab of meat on a plate with some dribbles of jus. Service – Very poor, took over 1.5hrs to serve mains without any update from waiting staff. When inquired we were met with an excuse of a new chef instead of an apology (new chef shouldn’t be scheduled alone on a busy Friday night). Salt and pepper were not on the table and had to take it ourselves off the fireplace. Staff waiting other tables intentionally avoided eye contact further proving overall poor service. When leaving down the stairs was cutoff by a staff member who was performing closing duties (she apologised when we met at the top of the stairs however continued to cut us off and DIDN’T let us go first instead we have to follow behind her). When providing feedback to the manager, he seemed disengaged and impatient for us to leave so he could close the restaurant for the night a sign of poor management in addition to poor staff. Overall verdict 2/5 – Will not be returning. A booking for 8:30 we left the restaurant at 11pm without dessert after being rushed out by waiting staff. When paying for an upmarket meal I expect better service than would I get from pub.

I have come before, but a recent experience left our table extremely disappointed.

The sashimi was underwhelming, not up to standard, and the serving size was meagre. One of the pieces of white fish (snapper, I presume) tasted as though it had gone off.

As for the steaks, I am used to these signature cuts being moist, tender and full of flavour, with excellent sauces to match, hence why I have returned several times and recommended these cuts to others. However, on this occasion, all four pieces of steak (ordered medium) were dry and tough. They lacked flavour and were unpleasant to eat, feeling like a chore to finish. Given the price and my expectations, I was severely disappointed. I would have gotten a much better steak at an average restaurant for well below half the price I paid.

Furthermore, the sauces felt clumsy and poorly executed, unlike what I have had previously. The Café de Paris butter lacked balance, being overly floral and fishy, and it didn't taste of butter and did not accentuate the meal at all. The truffle horseradish chipotle béarnaise lacked flavour and was not to the standard we expected. The béarnaise was such that it ruined the taste of the steak (as unpleasant as it was to begin with).

The sides were edible, but the standard was not worth what we paid. The steak fries, in particular, lacked crispness, reminiscent of the standard I expect from a fish and chips store.

The servers were friendly, attentive and accommodating, going above and beyond, however, were careless with how they served us, with water dripping onto plates while pouring water and long fingernails extending into our bowls of food.

Overall this is not the standard I have come to expect from Jervois Steak House, and I hope this is just a one-off experience. In future, I would be reluctant to go come myself and would warn others about this place unless I could be assured of a return to better standards. I would try another restaurant...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at a steak restaurant that truly exceeded my expectations in every way possible. From the moment I walked in, I knew I was in for a special treat.

The first thing that struck me was the ambiance of the restaurant. It had a warm and welcoming atmosphere with soft lighting, elegant decor, and comfortable seating. The music playing in the background was just the right volume and added to the overall ambiance.

The service was exceptional from the start. The hostess greeted us with a warm smile and promptly seated us at our reserved table. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and wine list and offered excellent recommendations. She was attentive without being overbearing and made sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal.

Now, let's talk about the food. Oh my goodness! The steak was cooked to perfection and seasoned just right. It was juicy, tender, and had a rich flavor that left my taste buds dancing with delight. The sides were equally impressive, with fresh vegetables and crispy potatoes that were the perfect complement to the steak. I also appreciated the option to choose the size of the steak to fit my appetite, which was a nice touch.

The wine list was extensive, and our server was helpful in guiding us through the options. We ended up choosing a bottle of red wine that paired perfectly with our steak and added to the overall dining experience.

One thing that really stood out to me was the attention to detail. From the presentation of the food to the table settings, everything was impeccably done. The restaurant clearly takes pride in their craft, and it shows in the quality of the food and the overall dining experience.

Overall, I cannot recommend this steak restaurant enough. It exceeded my expectations in every way possible, from the ambiance to the service to the food. If you're looking for a special dining experience, this is the...
