IT'S NOT WHAT IT APPEARS TO BE. Magnificent, colorful decoration and detailed paintings of farming, fishing, factory work and high arched ceilings. We where met by a stressed butler who waltzes around without control. All 4 of us took a drink and that tasted delicious. The female waitress does not welcome us once when she finally comes to the table. We order 2 pan roasted turbot, a mussel and an entrecote, 1 glass of red wine and a bottle of white wine, the white wine comes warm and after the food has been consumed🤨 and now we have a another waiter. 2 of the dishes was also cold. After that no waiter came to the table anymore so we had to Call for the third waiter, this time a friendly French waiter who apologized the cold food, late arriveing warm white wine and floppy service. He deducted the bill 15% which was likeable but managed to withdraw the amount 2 times. Sorry Frescohallen, pull your self together, hire a professional manger, train and organize your staff and become what you appears to be In theese beutiful building.

Perhaps my biggest regret was not having dinner here. Upon check-in, the friendliest front office operator spoke of Frescohallen with a fond reverance. And he undersold it. Such a magnificent space to begin with; beautiful architecture with colourful frescos throughout. A lowered ceiling framed by mirrors hangs suspended above the bar area which functions as a comprehensive buffet in the mornings. Fresh breads and condiments, cereals, yoghurts and fresh fruit including healthy juice shots, fried and scrambled eggs, hash browns, mushrooms & sausages, delicious salmon 3ways, charcuterie, cheeses, pastries, cakes, an entire gluten free section, pod and percolated coffee (& tea) petit-fours, salads and make-a-crepe station (with maple sauce Nutella and more!) It was outstanding. As were the staff. They gave the whole experience that added quality you can't train or buy; friendliness. 12 out of ten!!

The most elegant hotel restaurant in Bergen, set inside the city’s former stock exchange—an architectural gem and historical icon. The staff? Unmatched.Professional, sharp, and gracefully efficient, always kind and attentive. I’ve witnessed their quiet vigilance firsthand: a place where solo female travelers can feel truly safe and seen. Ask for the Midori cocktail. You won’t find it on the menu. It was created by a former barman with a love for Japan, and perfected by the current one. It’s fresh, subtle, bright, and has no equal in the city. I’ve had it here more times than I care to admit. In the photos: the restaurant bar crafting a tailor-made brûlée cocktail, sugar flamed to golden over soft foam—a drink with theater, warmth, and intention. Regulars know what to ask for. And why they keep coming back.

Though the interiors are splendid - it used to house the grand Bergen Bank way back in the days - it far from makes up for the restaurant’s many flaws.

For a start it’s definitely overpriced for rather average food (€ 10 extra for a jacket potato as a side, just as an example). And as stated the food is mediocre at best. Ex; a simple sirloin steak that was expressively asked to be on the rare side of medium rare, came out as a medium plus.

I would have commented if the waiter had bothered to come and ask me and my company how the food was, be that never happened. As didn’t any normal degree of courtesy. (Rather we had to listen to a party of British visitors that were livid due to the poor food, service and exuberant prices).

Staff seems friendly enough, but rather helpless without training and skills. Inefficient and young in several senses of the word.

To be avoided - try the brassiere just in front at Opus XVI instead. Better food, professional staff and actually cheaper....
