Very disappointing experience, when happily introducing friend to some Chinese dimsum. Food is quite ordinary, nothing impressive. One dish should be served w crisp fried stuff inside were entirely soggy and soft. But service was really poor esp by Norwegian standard. AWEFUL, if not UNBELIEVABLE!
Young male waiter told us errogantly “next time I take it” when he came to take the cap and saw bit drop of humidity from the bamboo cap on the tabke when we placed the cap for steam pot in the next table. Our table is very small and we order 5 different dishes. They were not presented one by one but all dumped on table in table simlilar time. There is no way we can eat the food if not opening the cap, no way either to place the cap on the next table (there were very little guests) and the waiter is NOT attentive at all—it was just silly if we should wait for him to open the cap for us before we proceed to the next one dish. I was really shocked when he dared demanding us in these words and manner, he Really doesn’t seem to know he is in service industry and he is there to provide service!?
He later dropped the whole tea pot w hot water crashed on the plate w food. Splashing water over all, but didn’t offer to wipe away. By this time I figured he is simply untrained with so many unprofessional and strange behavior.
He told us we should order more food “usually one guest order 4-5 dishes”. when took our order. To emphasize, he said that Norwegians do not like our offerings. At the end, we couldn’t even finish the five dishes we ordered!
With same price, there are Much Better choices of Chinese/Asian food like Nodee or Dinner-Much More Finess in good-balance of flavor and elegant presentation! And MUCH professional staff serving customers who do not leave the restraunt feeling let down if not...
Read moreNot experience I expected, would give 3.5 out of 5 stars Booked table online and had given only reservation for 1h30min seemed good amount of time to enjoy food. When we arrived it was hard to understand if doors where locked or too hard to open 😅 Lady who greeted us didn't seem happy and stated that reservation is only till 15:30, okay no problem since we don't have choice on matter. Sat next to window with airwent that was blowing cold air ❄️ Oslo was already -8°C non-stop! Got menus and waited for 10min till she came back to take our orders. We wanted to have shared Dim Sum options since it was reason we came here for. She looked at us stating that not sure if they can do that since we have left 1h 20min of time... Seeing our reaction she said we can try to make it on time 😅 like what! Food was overall good: Pecking duck 🦆 was tasty, just haven't had raw bell pepper as side dish for Pecking duck before. Dim Sum 🥟 was over-steamed and wasn't as firm as should be. Taste was still good but they were breaking apart the moment you tried to pick them up. Desert was nice and tasty but funny we had share big plate like on a date 😁 Good part of experience was tea with free refills! I hope they were for free 😅 Pricey (140€) as anything in Oslo but just understood that it will be cheaper to try to make this at home or try spots like in...
Read moreAfter my recent meal at this restaurant, I was reminded of why it has been such a long time since I've eaten here: The dim sum they serve is just a bleak version of the real thing that you get in Hong Kong, almost not comparable. But what can I do? The last time I was in Hong Kong was 2001, and it's been maybe a decade since I last visited Taste of China (they were located in Torggata then) and the craving was just too great to ignore anymore.
Every dish from Taste of China was a bit too salty or sweet, you can just feel that it's all based on MSG (which in itself is not a bad thing, in small quantities), and not on stock/broth. Your mouth just dried up afterwards - not a great sign.
Although many of the dim sum dishes were too salty, the fung chao (chicken feet) was actually a bit bland and borderline too well done. The cha siu pao was small in size and the meager amount of filling was unevenly distributed in the bun - come on, two measly buns for 93 kroner? They could at least make them a bit bigger and add more filling. The buns were about half the size of the cha siu paos you get in Hong Kong.
Also, they didn't have lo mai gai (sticky rice in lotus leaf), a staple of any dim sum restaurant. Just very disappointing.
To be honest, I don't think I'll ever be back here. I love dim sum, but this is, sadly,...
