Walked in to check if they serve vegan food. Was met with the coldest, unfriendliest “no”. Living in London, seeing how Betong’s peers offer warm service whilst going beyond to alter their menus (on the fly) to cater to dietary options — betong is a stark reminder of how far Oslo still has to go. This interaction was the pinnacle of heteronormative conservatism and hoists nothing but red flags.

Update: the conversation happened in Norwegian, there was no language barriers. And I think the restaurants response to my original post proves my point when it comes to narrow mindedness, lack of service/professionalism and lack of adaptability.

My experience is mixed. Indeed, although the meal was qualitatively good (tasty and varied dishes), we were disappointed with the service. I was very surprised that we were asked to pay when we still had not received the desserts. As this is an 8-course menu, the time (2h30) seems too tight to me, leaving, moreover, no time between the two services. It would be appropriate to reduce the menu or to add a 30-minute interval between two tables. As it was, we were rushed by two waiters (one would have been enough) while service was sometimes slow between our courses. The service and the food were impeccable. The set menu was perfectly built, my company and I had different favorites along the journey, and the wine by the glass selection is a decent variety. Laidback, unpretentious staff, making it a relaxing atmosphere to just focus on the food experience and your company. Recommend pairing the current dessert with the plum sake. That was a great flavor combo!

(Nb, if you have allergies or dietary restrictions, you should let them know in advance. I have seen other comments complaining about that they have a fixed menu and not much wiggle room on the spot, but you should also do your part of the effort and let them know up front if there are any...
