American Bazaar — Restaurant in San Felipe

Firstly I really wish it was possible to award half stars. Probably better than 3 * but not good enough for 4 *.

Start with the positives - all of the staff were attentive without being intrusive, were very polite and helpful throughout our meal. The wine list is extensive and some were over priced on the whole they represented value for money.

The atmosphere could be so good, the music while assisting with the American theme was so loud that a conversation with the person opposite was impossible without the need to shout. If they are going for higher end restaurant (indicated by pricing) then way off the mark with ambience, if trying for mid western Pub or sports bar then ambience correct but well over price point.

The food had such potential, the Mac and Cheeee was bland and the sauce was like water, the steaks were over cooked (Porterhouse and Skirt) we ordered rare to medium rare and were served 1 well done and the other medium to well done. The bright point of the food was the smoked potato mash.

Beautiful restaurant inside Hotel La Compañia - a picturesque hotel in the heart of Casco Viejo that's akin to a museum. Service at this restaurant was exceptional. However, no amount of service and atmosphere can make up for how terrible the food is. We tried two different burgers, and both were among the worst I've ever had. If I had to imagine what battery acid tastes like, it would be whatever sauces they use. Couldn't finish our servings so decided to get the leftovers wrapped. Couldn't be happier when I realized I forgot to take it. I highly recommend the venue for its atmosphere and service, but it's only worth visiting once for the experience. If they could improve their food, this could be one of the best venues in Panama. As it stands, there won't be a repeat...

American friendly (English menu, sports, rock classics on loud volume, even during lunch). Had a vegan wrap, and it was good. Service size is huge, was not able to finish it. Be aware that with it comes non vegan mayonnaise on the side. You are given bread with butter as a free starter (also non vegan). Both these things could potentially have been picked up by the waiter given that I ordered the vegan wrap. Went here lunch time, and it's was only me.
