I literally got food poisoned and I may need to visit tge hospital today! I don't know what was in my dish, for god sake do not eat here!

I had a terrible experience in this place yesterday...

My friends and I sat in this restaurant around 8pm, we were waiting for other people to join. We ordered food at 8:30pm and we only got it at 10pm! They brought one dish per time with the excuse that there was only one person in the kitchen... Everyone was waiting for the last dish to arrive... Mine...

I ordered a Thai Red Curry, and, after all the waiting, I was looking forward to have it... The dish was incredibly salty, it looked like someone had spilled salt in...

When I made the waiter notice, he asked me if he could "try it" and he then brought it back to the kitchen.

A couple of minutes went by and he comes back with the same, disgusting dish...

I didn't want to make a scene, so I decided to have some, as I was also starving.... I had a terrible night!

I literally got food poisoned and I may need to visit tge hospital today! I don't know what was in my dish, for god sake do...

This. Is. The place! I am so thrilled to have found this exceptional Izakaya / cocktail bar / sushi bar / hangout in the heart of Casco Viejo. There is some serious talent in this kitchen - creating dynamic Japanese cuisine with a distinct style that is truly unique. The smoked shiitake gyoza and crispy rice tuna were so good I went back the next day to have them again. The sushi is first class - perfect rice and impeccable ingredients. Where do I even begin with talking about the drinks?? My main man Sander is a talented bartender who understands the nuances of mixology. He can create anything from a tantalizing tiki drink to a meticulously crafted mezcalita. I would live in this bar if I could. It is a distinctive vibe that you simply won’t get anywhere else in Casco Viejo. You absolutely must make time to eat and drink here if you are...

Many, many thanks to Mari, Rey, Brian and Elias for two perfect evenings at La Bárbara x Aki Sushi.

This little hidden gem in the heart of Casco Viejo is simply outstanding. Effortlessly urbane, chic and sophisticated without a hint of pretentiousness. The service was friendly and welcoming, polished and professional. The staff was very attentive without being obsequious.

And then there was the food...

The favorite starter was the spicy tuna on a biscuit of crispy rice. It was so good we ordered it again the second night. One for each of us so we didn't have to fight over it.

The sushi rolls were inventive and incredibly fresh, beautifully presented. The cocktails were made with fresh ingredients all prepared in house. The well stocked bar has an excellent selection of a wide variety of liquors.

The Pho with BBQ pork had a delicate broth and fresh vegetables. The vegan curry ramen was the perfect light comfort food we were hoping for.

I can't say enough good things about this delightful restaurant and its engaging staff. I can't wait to go back next time I'm in the city.

Walked by this spot randomly looking for an espresso, came through the hairdressing studio and walked into a dimly lit, intimate space. We ordered an espresso martini (100% would recommend to order) and once realizing they also served food, proceeded to order miso soup and 2 nigiri sushi’s (tuna and salmon). We asked the waiter how fresh the fish was and he mentioned that it was delivered same day (they do this everyday). Although skeptical at first, we can say that the sushi was some of the freshest fish we’ve had in Casco Viejo. We have the pictures to prove it. Highly recommend checking out this hidden gem while you’re visiting Casco Viejo if you’re looking for a quick bite and drink that is affordable and delicious.

La Bárbara is a cool little speakeasy located in the back of a hair salon in Casco Viejo, Panama City. It is an active salon by day, but at night, you walk through the closed salon to the back sliding doors which are open to reveal a cozy but clandestine full bar with appetizers! We had the place to ourselves on a weeknight during low season, but I can imagine the place is full to capacity on weekends. The bartender was to notch and crafted very well made and delicious cocktails. Watching her work close up made it clear she is a professional who excells at her craft. Very quaint and worth the trip!
