I was with my wife and 9 months old baby in the Mirador the Carmen. We decided to enter the Salamanto restaurant. Restaurant was half empty, and the waitress pointed us to the empty table. 1 minute later we were given the menus and asked if we needed a booster seat for the baby. Meantime(before we ordered) I was cleaning the extremely booster seat. It took me around 7 min to clean it. Once we were ready to order, a person(probably the manager - female) approached us and asked us to leave as we didn't have the reservation. Firstly we were given a table, menus, and the booster seat for the baby, after which we were kicked out from the half empty restaurant as we did not have the reservation. We did not know that the reservation was needed in a half empty restaurant and the table given to us did not have the 'reserved' plate, same as most of the tables.
They should ask us for the reservation first. They should not give us menus and booster seats. We were with a 9 months old baby for heaven 's sake.
I hope this review reaches as many people as possible as the restaurant needs to...
Read moreLet me start by saying that the food was not bad. But in Arequipa, and Peru in general, saying the 'food is not bad' is a very low bar - because even in modest restaurants you'll find exellent and almost transportive cuisine that will make you drunk with flavour. Salamanto promises much more than it delivers - its pristine location, its promotional material, its menu, the fine dining presentation of its food, the high prices. They set the expectations high as a supposed fine dining experience, but completely underwhelms by Peruvian standards. It is mediocre at best, and over priced and pretentious at worst. You can find better food all over Arequipa for half the price without the stuck up atmosphere. The view is great from the terrace, but for the price tag you can eat twice as good two times over at any of the other excellent venues Arequipa offer.
Low lights: The food was cold The cheescake was frozen in the centre The pisco sour was sub par
High lights: The trout was the only exceptional dish The view of the...

The only appetiser that actually tasted good was the one representing earth “duck”. Second course was completely inedible as it was potently sour, third course was guinea pig and so disappointing that we decided to call a premature end to our evening. Added to this the (not inexpensive) wine was mediocre and all in all we had a complete flop of an...
