The restaurant is beautiful, but unfortunately we found the food (at these prices) very underwhelming. What we ordered lacked any "wow factor" both in terms of presentation and, more importantly, taste. It is not bad, but we had very high expectation from a Gastón Acurio restaurant, especially after having been numerous time to the cheaper, but much tastier "El Bodegon" in Lima. Tanta is locally expensive to very expensive, with each dish being on average well over 40 Soles or 10 USD equivalent and, at least to us, wasn't any better than much cheaper alternatives. Another quirk is that, in spite of the restaurant being half empty when we arrived (party of 2) we were told, as everyone who came after us, that there were onl tables available in the outdoor section. This was a bit of a disappointment as chairs in the inside part of the restaurant are much more comfortable and no one came to occupy any of the empty table in the interior part in the two hours or so we spent at Tanta. Weird. Overall: not bad food, but not worth the price, in...
Read moreI enjoyed the Sanguche Chicharron which was delightful. It was different from other Chicharron sandwiches I had before but I really liked it. They used these sweet potato chips that gave a fun crunch to the sandwich, I like how they added tomatoes and the bread they used elevated the sandwich.
The Lomo Saltado empanadas were equally outstanding. The combination of tender beef, sautéed with onions, tomatoes, and spices, all encased in a pastry shell, was a culinary masterpiece. The flavors were spot on, and I loved how the empanada managed to capture the essence of the traditional Lomo Saltado dish in a convenient handheld form.
Tanta offered a warm and inviting ambiance, friendly and attentive service, and a diverse menu that showcases the rich culinary traditions of Peru.
I can't recommend Tanta in Arequipa enough, especially if you're a fan of...
Read moreUnfortunately all the waiters are totally lost! Some of our dishes arrived 45 minutes later than others. The starters sometimes came at the same time as the main courses. Sometimes people had a starter and a main course and others had nothing to eat. The other main courses came much later. Other main courses had long since been cleared away. Some of the potatoes were undercooked and some of the food came to the table cold, even though the restaurant was not nearly full. Some of the cutlery was not clean. At least we got 2 pieces of cake for 8 people for the delay. All quite disappointing except for the ambience. This is very nice, but it is very cold in the restaurant. Unfortunately, the value for money...
