How do the meals get better every restaurant?
We started with the Parmesan scallop. Currently, they are cutting open the scallop, with the roe sack, covering it with Parmesan cheese and broiling it. The result has mixed reviews. I was surprised at how much the scallop was still raw. Husband thought the Parmesan was too sharp for the scallop. I found it intriguing. I had one, found it unique, had another and called it a day. It wasn't bad but I had a hard time wrapping my head around something broiled that was still raw. But that's me.
Alfresco definitely has top notch ceviche. Every ceviche is made from the catch of the day. They knock it out of the park. Seriously, I love cilantro and culantro and their ceviche de culantro is just amazing. This fresh vibrant sauce and pickled onions along with that savory and sweet sweet potato was ridiculous. I will never recreate this at home.
Wine was local and affordable. Had the following whites: Vittoria and the Inkiplata. I liked the Vittoria better as it was a lighter drinking wine. It went down refreshing and easy. The Inkiplata had a bit more body and grass but still light.
Husband had the tiradito which came with a trio of sauces which included the culantro sauce, a red pepper sauce, and the Amarillo pepper sauce.
No starches, no bread. It was a lovely meal. Rodolfo and Joel both did an excellent job taking care of us.
Had the chimoya happy for dessert. Chimoya fruit, citrus, gooseberry, and mint. Odd juxtapositions all meeting for a light refreshing finish to our meal.
It was nice to finish a meal after appetizers, mains, and dessert and not feeling full and bloated.
The meal felt invigorating....
Read moreThe food is good but the portion is very, very small. They served us the tape water in a bottle. They gave it to me in an old bottle. They did not open in front of me, and the water tasted bad. I told the waiter, and he was not apologizing and still charging us 16 sol. He was also shameless to ask for tips. My husband tips him 30 sol, which I will not give him a penny for scamming us for an old bottle with fingerprints all over. For 16 sol, they lost all their business with me. We skip the dessert for tonight. We will be here for a few more days, but we will not go back again. We had a great dinner at Tanta last night. My husband and I were comparing tanta with our restaurants in chile and argentina. We were so happy that we ate there last night. They charge what they were supposed to charge and asked for reasinable tips while providing good services. The food was great with a huge portion. We will be back in lima for a few more days and will continue to go back to Tanta for the rest of the trip. Here is about Alfrsco - If they can scam you for $5 dollar water, what would they do for the $25 to 30 plate of the food? The photos were taken before we ate. The fish of the day for 78 sol. It was a half empty dish. Tuna dish was three pieces for 58 sol. This place is a totally tourist trap. There were a few tables that were occupied when we were there tonight. Anothet group of 6 was also from our group and brought in by a tour guy. They might offer kickback to the tour guy. That is why our tour guy told us about the place. Eat at your own risk. We will not...
Read moreTourists BEWARE :( They'll try to scam you :( :( Missed my reservation at Maido (ouch!) and thought this could be a nice alternative in the neighborhood. The ambience is cute, and the waitstaff were friendly. And credit where its due, the pisco sour was also the best I had this week (and we tried a lot of them...!). Unfortunately that's where the good news ends. Every item I order was overcharged for one reason or another -- they said the pisco sour was in a fancy glass, not a regular glass, so that was more than listed, and the causa and the noodle dish, which were listed as a lunch special, were only for guests of a certain hotel. Honestly, this would have been fine if I had been told up front and ordered what I actually wanted (ceviche!) but no -- they charged me way more than was listed, and deleted the QR code menu when I asked to see a manager (I always take screenshots since my spanish isnt perfect and I like to refer back when ordering). The manager stood and nodded while the waiter and I had the same conversation, and refused to honor the price that was listed in the menu for any of the three items I ordered. Left with a horrible taste in my mouth, both from the experience and the spaghetti (if you have to go, definitely order something else!). Do get the pisco sour though, no matter how much they decide to...
