La Cantina di Epicuro — Restaurant in Lima Metropolitan Area

My husband and I have visited many restaurants in Lima, ranging from renowned establishments like ‘Central’ to little taverns. Unfortunately, this restaurant stood out for being one of the most expensive in terms of the overall experience relative to what it offered.

To start, the owner dictates the menu without providing clear information about pricing, leaving you unaware of the costs until the end. While the food itself is flavourful, the portions are disappointingly small. Adding to this, the owner seemed somewhat arrogant, especially when we opted not to have the full course meal, as we had already eaten earlier.

For context, we ordered two small glasses of wine, one Pisco Sour, one starter, and one main dish of ravioli to share. The total cost came to nearly 300 soles, which felt excessive given the portion sizes and overall value.

Considering Lima’s culinary scene, with countless exceptional restaurants catering to all tastes and budgets, I would not recommend this place. There are far better options available that offer a more satisfying and transparent...

Marco and his son run probably the best Italian cuisine in Lima. Marco's son, who is the chef, is an artist! We basically let them bring us out dish after dish after dish.

The veal chop was insanely good, but everything else from the white truffle agnolotti, foie gras ravioli, and it looks simple, but their home made rigatoni with a tomato sauce I could bathe in :)

I love La Cantina di Epicuro and will definitely be back again. Not just for the amazing food and service, but the sheer creativity to make some modern takes on classic Italian!

EDIT 104/2023: I returned to La Cantina di Epicuro this past week and it was incredible again! Marco is just an awesome guy and they produce awesome food. Their wine list is super extensive also, but you need to speak with Marco about what's drinking nice at the time.

Arrogant non welcoming owner, no menu, no idea of pricing (and careful it does not come cheap). Hostess impressive as she demonstrated her memory when naming the many dishes available, when we got to dishes 10-15 we could of course not remember dishes 1-10 anymore 🤷‍♂️ Hence the beauty of having a menu ?🤔. Food good and overall the decor and interior nice. Cannot recommend it - with all the great options in Lima, why bother...
