Our recent and first dining experience left us with mixed feelings. We had high expectations for this place when making a booking for my friend’s birthday dinner. First, there was no sign outside and the door was shut. We were walking around looking for the restaurant when a guy, probably drunk or high, shouted at us in a threatening tone - we barely understood what he was saying apart from “señoritas” and “Tomo”. We got confused and so scared that we had to walk away. It turned out he was standing right in front of the restaurant - if he was a security guy, he definitely left us feeling unsafe. Seconds later, someone opened the door and called us. We had almost left and missed our reservation. From the entrance to the dining room, along the corridor, there was an unpleasant smell - not sure if it came from cleaning products (we were amongst the first customers that evening) or from the living plants (bad choice in this case). As we sat down, we were handed only one menu. We asked for a second one but the waiter refused leaving us speechless. I would be surprised if they were running out of menus as most tables were empty at that time. There was wifi which barely worked (“garbage” as the waiter described it), and we weren’t able to get the digital version. The waiter tried to assist us with our menu choices upon our request, which he did - he would start talking in English then quickly switch to Spanish which we barely spoke. Generally, the menu lacked options for vegetarians and vegans. With regards to food, we had mixed thoughts. We tried a number of dishes. The restaurant absolutely impressed with its tiradito ponzu and nigiri bachi - so yummy. The ramen wasn’t bad. The razor clams was an interesting choice, I wouldn't order it again. The makis Jeremy and Acebichado were disappointing: too much rice, and the cream cheese was of low quality. Also, I ordered a soda drink assuming it was unsweetened according to the waiter, but it came super sweet. He kindly offered to change it removing one ingredient but it was still somehow sweet. The waiter concluded the sweetness came from “hierba Luiza” (a herb) which did not make sense to me. The interior decor was simple and classy, although a bit dark. We were offered a table however opted for the bar which had a better lighting. It would have been great to have high seats and views over the chef’s counter. Music was at the right volume however the 90s songs vibe wasn’t setting a matching vibe for the place. The ambiance lacked some thoughtful efforts. What stood out most was the unfortunate oversight during my friend's 30th birthday celebration. Despite mentioning the occasion and insisting via WhatsApp, the waiter failed to acknowledge it in any way. We were expecting at least a simple "Happy Birthday" but sadly, nothing of that sort happened. Overall, the lackluster service left much to be desired. I hope this feedback will be taken constructively for a better dining experience for other customers. We wouldn’t be...
Read moreI'm dissapointed at Tomo. I live in Lima, and I tell you Tomo is not worth it. If you want Nikei food, go to Osaka or Hanzo. If you want excellent flavorous makis, go to Osaka. If you want great service go literally anywhere else! I've hat better servise in Glotons at 2 am than I did in Tomo at 9 pm. The only thing I can honestly recomend from this place are the Nigiris (I'd order them all at once so the can't mess up your order). Let me explain why it was so dissaponting: -Service: the told my mother that her Ramen wasn't available WHEN EVERYONE ELSE HAD OUR DISHES IN FRONT OF US, after we'd already ate the appetizers (we had order the main dishes at the same time as the appetizers), they had already told another person on our party that they didn´t have the Udon they wanted wasn't available at a resonable time and asking for a replacement for a ramen when averyoune else is eating is not reasonable. We share a bit of our main dishe with my mom, so she'd eat along with us It took 20 minutes and we calling serves for them to take away our empty dishes from table... They forgot about us after they knew they messed up with us. Their courtesy for the bad service was a self proclaimed "best chocolate cake" (Mariáte's chocolate cake is better) witch the mistekenly charged in the check afterwards... and hat to re do the check. We also ordered a bottle of white wine they brought it warm with a bucket of ice it only got to the temperature it should've arrived by the end of the dinner. If you order a bottle of water, peregrino or soda you cannot manage your refils since they take away your bottle and are not so focussed on refelling your glass. They apparently don´t belive in coasters so they every once in a while one preson comes to dry up the table interrumpting the conversation.
Atmosfere: it's just standard tables, way too heavy chairs, no accesibily for the handicapped. And I don´t know about you but I dont expect to listen to Dr. DRE in a a japanise inspired expensive restaurant.
Food: is good, not the best, I prefer Osaka and Hanzo. The nigiris are the only thing worthy of your time and money. the do not facilitate parking.
I wrote this whole review in english so tourist know they can find better. I noticed that most english review are " it's amazing" and spanish ones are "its good, but no wow" some others in spaanish are bad like mine. I don't know if the restaurant is bias to give a better service to tourist or if out point of reference for nikei food and servide it's held at a higher standard. Bottom line is you'll have a better...

It started with an amusing discovery of a cloak-and-dagger facade of a gated compound 😎😎😎, Obvious identification sign of the restaurant on the other side of the street, until the actual gate is on one’s face… it’s a laugh😆
The menu is a true reflection of the Japanese influence in Peruvian gastronomy 👏👏👏. It’s a great menu to create one’s tasting course over the course of dinner. Terrific range of choices from Crudo, to the simmered or flambeed, to cooked food.
The waiter has an impressive grasp of the entire menu, recommending popular customer choice and his own favorites. BRAVO👏👏👏.
