So getting inside of this place is a bit of a challenge, there are multiple entrances with notices that say use the main entrance. I walked around the building a couple of times before luckily someone else was having the same problem and I followed them. It’s actually through the largest door that doesn’t directly face the restaurant and after you go through that you take a left to get in. I was sad I couldn’t make the breakfast menu so had to have the lunch menu. It’s fairly expensive and the portions are not particularly large- so think more fine dining when you are here. The scallops were yum! Really good flavours and tasted fresh. The fried zucchini flowers were also yum and the sauce that accompanied it worked so well. The triple cooked chips were probably more close to wedges and it felt like eating a chunk of potato each time. My preference would be thinner and smaller chips so you get more crunch from the triple cooking. Service was okay and sorting out the bill is another front of the restaurant. The decor is really nice!

The memory of Petition's broccolini and buckwheat dish 5 years ago brought me back to the dark, raw and romantic space in the State Buildings. It was my last visit. Inattentive service and below average food made this a depressing occasion. We were left waiting for drink orders while an abundance of staff chatted merrily among themselves at the bar. Once our food orders were taken, puff pastry appetisers with honey arrived that had the whiff of the microwave. A rubbery consistency that was difficult to slice and lack of flavour made them inferior to anything from a supermarket's frozen section. We turned to the bread at $4 a serve which was bland, cold and basic. There was no broccolini and buckwheat dish so we tried the roast beetroot and buckwheat with macadamia sauce. The Qantas lounge salad is more inventive. The beetroot may as well have been tinned with little flavour or hint of roasting, buckwheat was harder to find than a waiter at the beginning of the evening. The pretentious sauce poured by a waiter was redundant. Our chips were not soggy - as the table next to us experienced - but chunky, hefty and bland in seasoning and flavour. The braised beef cheeks fell apart temptingly but lacked flavour. Waiters struggled to place the dishes together on the small table, leaving us to facilitate Jenga-style arrangements. We were asked if we wanted the beetroot and beef to arrive together. We said yes. They came separately. We didn't bother with dessert. Why tempt fate? The stars here come for the martini which was well balanced and necessary to wash down the puff pastry. It might have been a bad night in the kitchen but there are too many amazing places in Perth to try without coming back.

I unfortunately forgot to get the name of the waitress who say us and waited our table but her service was 5*****! The food in itself was sub-par in so many ways. The shakshuka ($25) was over cooked and dehydrated which was refected in the rock hard egg in the centre. Our pulled beef breakfast (for the low price of $28) came out with tepid meat, unseasoned undressed rocket, and a version of romesco that was so laden in garlic it was all you could taste. egg unseasoned and covered in chopped parsley. Sent back un eaten except for the egg. we sent back the shakshuka and being an open kitchen the chef was visibly mad. it arrived in under 6 mins and apologies were given by the beautiful waitress. Unfortunately upon cracking the egg open it was completely raw on the inside with uncooked egg white running through the entire dish. we stood up to pay where unfortunately things got worse. instead of dealing with our lovely waitress as were happy to pay, the female manager stepped in. she instantly asked for our feedback and reasons for leaving our food. At every bit of feedback we gave, she got defensive and stated 3 times "well noones ever said that before" effectively belittling and dismissing our feedback. Long story short, we took a chance on a venue, didnt go to plan, we were happy to pay and leave. this review wouldnt exisit if it wasnt for the negative attitude of the manager. if you're going to ask for someones feedback, take it with compassion as you are the face of someones business. we wish it all the best. I tried to visit all the restaurants at the State Building in my little getaway, but I would say this one was a bit disappointed. My booking was at 8 o’clock at night and I got there 10 minutes earlier. While I was standing at the front desk for at least 10 mins, a few staff members walked passed me and ignored, until a gentleman arrived and waited next to me. The manager went straight to the gentleman without asking who was there first. Finally seated, I tried to order the chef selection and was told that it needed to have two people to order it, there was no where had stated that on the menu. After a few negotiation, the manager finally came to see me and said she worried I might not like the chef selection and suggested me to order a la carte instead. Two waitresses came separately and asked what water I would like. Yeah, of course, mistake again. They opened a bottle of sparkling water for me rather than tap, which was charged at the final bill. About the food, the bread was delicious! Soft and chewable balanced very well. The swordfish was interestingly made with shedded pickles. I’m not a fan of the lamb as the whole dish was quite heavy and it could be fixed by adding some citrus flavor into it. At the end, they offered me a dessert that should only come with the chef selection. The dessert was very nice. I also ordered a peach sorbet which was mind blowing, so fresh and great to have as finished.

Been a patron a number of times over the years and this place seems to be deteriorating year by year and I think the most recent experience would be my last. Service is hit and mostly miss. Had a couple of errors on our order - missed a starter and had an extra coffee served and when told of the error, they would rather chuck it than offer it to the table as a complimentary offer which would be of negligible cost. Serving size is on the smaller side and pricing offers poor value in my opinion. You would expect the complexity or flavours to compensate the small portions but both were missing. There was 1 staff who was pleasant enough to serve with a smile but the rest of them seemed like they would rather be somewhere else. The kicker was at the end the error was still in the bill which was only caught when I inspected it. This restaurant is in such a good location and has beautiful decor but sadly it seems like the food and service does not match its ambience. There's much more competition in Perth now and plenty of restaurants that offer much more for way less expense.
