This is a great little Mexican restaurant with an impressive collection of tequilas and mezcals across all price-points (up to and including both Clase Azul and Dos Artos). Cash or credit cards accepted.
Came in for dinner about 7:30pm on a Friday night. Place was empty but began filling up by the time I left. Menu consists of some great appetizers, street or regular tacos (street tacos are smaller with less garnishes) and some other entrees.
Their lengua street tacos are very good. Extremely tender but slightly sweet, which was a little surprising. However this may be an accommodation to local tastes. Their chilaquiles - a traditional Mexican breakfast dish of tortilla chips, salsa verde, beans, and eggs - is phenomenal.
The chips and salsa was a good quantity and included a red and green salsa as well as pico de gallo. You could really taste the base veggies in the salsas - tomatillos with a slightly sour edge for the green salsa and tomatoes with a sweet taste for the red salsa. The pico didn't have much or perhaps any cilantro (which was disappointing) and had a very strong aftertaste I couldn't quite put my finger on. Not bad - but distinct.
The ceviche was outstanding. Served with a small order of tortilla chips, the fish was perfectly tender yet cooked (by acid, not heat) mixed with diced tomatoes. REALLY tasty and highly recommended.
The bartender was very friendly and happy to talk about the restaurant. She indicated they import their ingredients from Mexico, and that's certainly obvious from their collection of tequilas and mezcals. In addition to the expensive ones mentioned earlier they had other mid- and low-range options, including Casamigos. The La Paloma cocktail was mixed well and was not unduly sweet.
Definitely the best Mexican food I've had in...
Read moreVisited a couple of times. First time was a quick visit for take out. I went for the tacos and found it was a good choice. The specialty of the bar is tequila and it merited visiting on a quiet Monday night (Tuesday night is discounted taco night). The staff are friendly and there did seem to be a lot of staff considering only a couple of tables were occupied. There was sufficient choice in beers and I went for more tacos and my first tamale. There was a lot of kitchen staff, so I was a little surprised at the wait for food, yet, all was good and the food tasted good. Later more patrons arrived so I suspect the bar gets busier later at night. Prices were okay, given this was a bar/restaurant I should expect prices to be a little higher than a restaurant...
Read moreNow here you experience the total rip-off. I paid a visit due to the good reviews on here. It took a while to visit because this place is always empty. Forget reviews! An empty restaurant speaks for itself! A local beer in this area goes for PHP100, at A'Toda Madre it is PHP150. A Mezcal is PHP450, but you only get 2cl. The tacos are tasty, but at PHP240 per serving you cannot even call it an appetizer. With no customers, it will likely be replaced by something better soon.
Now the owner replies to my post that "Our standards are considerably higher than those in our area... ". My question would be how a San Miguel Pilsen or a San Miguel Light are produced to higher standards than the same ones you would get in another joint in the area (or all of the...
