Just about everything I had here was amazing. And my family and I ordered a lot of items to sample the two times we visited:
•Fries - Ordered the larger size to share, and this thing was huge! Probably my favorite food item, as this was so tasty and fried perfectly, with generous amount of Parmesan right on top.
•Matcha coco - Ordered this based on the description from the menu, which was matcha with strawberry purée and shot of espresso. The first time I ordered it, I was given a matcha drink with clearly no purée; it was all dark green. Upon bringing this up to the hostess, she defended that this was the Matcha coco. But when I asked whether this even had strawberry purée, she went on about the images in the menu. She pointed out the image of the drink with purée and told me this was another drink (the Dirty Matcha?). I had to affirm that I ordered a drink based on its menu description. Only then was I brought the correct drink, and the hostess said she will bring up the issue to management. Now, when I went to this cafe a few days later and ordered the exact drink - Matcha coco - this came out, with no issue, exactly as I imagined it would’ve looked - a green drink with strawberry purée.
•Chorizo omelette - This was good, but not as tasty because the chorizo itself was not spicy at all. Accompanying salad was more tasty.
•Chickens and waffles - Supposedly a favorite, but this was the most-bland item I tried here. The chicken had no taste, but good texture. The waffles were too soft.
•Berries smoothie bowl - This was also delicious.
•XO French toast - Took so long to come out, probably almost 35 minutes after ordering. But also amazing. The blueberry compote provided just enough sweetness, so I felt the syrup on top of this also was too much. They also don’t skimp on the toppings.
I was nearly steered away from this place because of another review that wrote of how traumatic dining with flies was. (🙄) I can see how this may be an issue if dining outside. However, my family and I ate inside - it was a lovely, relaxing experience each time. This restaurant is beautiful, and right outside is a nice garden to enjoy while you eat.
Food items are pricey, however servings are very generous. Service is slow. They don’t check up on you after you’ve received your items. And I felt we had to call them over too many times than necessary for things like getting our orders taken, getting napkins, and following up...
Read moreUpdated review as of Oct 2022 This is the new location of Single Origin. Previously it was located at GB3 now they moved to GB5. The new layout is so-so, not as amazing as the previous branch in GB3. Food is not great as well. Very disappionted, especially i was expecting quality food with their price range
Got the pasta negra frutti de mare. Bland taste, not creamy. I understand that it is squid ink but the taste is a bit scally. I've tasted better.
We also got the pork belly bbq rice bowl. The pork bbq itself is okay but i had problems with the mixed rice. It has bits and pieces of red rice and it was uncooked. Although it is just bits and pieces, but i had to complain it to the chef, for which he confirmed that the rice is cooked. Red rice should be chewy on the outside and soft/mushy inside. The ones we had are brittled. We had to leave the rice behind.
Anyhow, i'll come back for drinks but not food.
2019 review This is our nth visit to single origin and the ambience is great for meeting and catching up with friends. We would usually order coffee here (yes they have good coffee), but this time we want to try their other drinks.
Pink lady - it is passion fruit herbal tea with lime but sorry to say - it tastes like berroca or cough syrup. Strawberry basil lemonade - good enough just like any other lemonade.
But dont forget to try their coffee, definitely...
Read moreThis was our fifth or sixth visit here, and while the food is consistently good and the ambiance is pleasant, the customer service leaves a lot to be desired. Unfortunately, the experience is overshadowed by the lack of attentiveness from the staff. When I raised my hand to call for a waiter, they seemed to deliberately ignore me. I even caught a waitress glance at me briefly before quickly looking away, which felt dismissive and unprofessional.
On this visit, I had to follow up multiple times for a drink order, speaking to three different servers, but still nothing happened. To try and speed things up, I stood in front of the counter, hoping it would help, but it still took over 30 minutes to get a simple drink. There was no urgency or initiative to check on basic things like service water, which should be standard.
While the food and ambiance make the place appealing, the service is inconsistent and frustrating. For example, one server said the happy hour package required the same drinks, while another said variety was allowed. This level of inconsistency and lack of proper training is disappointing.
If the management can address the customer service issues, this place would truly live up to its potential. For now, the food and ambiance are the main reasons to visit, but patience is...
