We dined in on a Saturday afternoon. The place was packed. There's a wait list and we were second. We can see from outside that there were two tables that were already cleaned and ready for the next guests. Note that there were 4 waiters actively walking around inside during that time and if you carefully observe, they're all over the place and some pretending to be busy or perhaps, doesn't know what to do next. From the time our name was listed to the time we were seated, it took almost 15 minutes.
We're finally happy that we're seated. When we're ready to order, I looked at one of the waiters and called his attention. From just standing in the corner, he looked away and suddenly walked around to the other side of the store as if he's going to do something else. I already knew at that point what kind of restaurant we're in, a restaurant that's not managed well. So I looked at the other waiter closer to us (who was taking the order from another table at that time) and he was kind enough to go to us once he was done and he took our order.
Got our order within 15-20minutes, which is expected. The food was delicious but we all felt that it was too overrated. Like, there's no "wow" factor (relative to its price). If the price was like P50-P100 lower than its current, it would've really made that impact or "wow" moment. Anyway, still a good experience in terms of the food.
So now we're done eating, I called the attention of the same waiter and asked him to prepare our bill and so he did. About 3 minutes later, he went back with the bill and then I gave him our payment. Then after 15 freakin' minutes, we haven't gotten our change yet. So I decided to stand and walk right up to the cashier and just as I expected, our receipt together with our change is just sitting there, waiting for someone to give it to us. I just couldn't believe that a handful of active waiters in that small restaurant, not 1 of them even bothered to check it while it was just there on top of their counter.
That summarizes our experience here. Obviously, the staff needs to be trained more. Unfortunately, we won't try this restaurant again to see if...
Read moreTsokolateria at Greenbelt 5 is a charming café / casual restaurant offering a delightful fusion of Filipino flavors fused in western cuisine and served with a chocolaty twist. The warm ambiance and well-thought-out décor make it an inviting place for a satisfying meal or a sweet treat. But the place is quite cramped and there are almost too many chairs and tables cramped together. That said, here’s a breakdown of the dishes I tried:
Bacon Lechon Lawali This dish features thin slices of crispy bacon lechon served with scrambled eggs, fresh vegetables, and black rice. The bacon lechon was mostly crispy and flavorful, providing the right balance of salty and savory notes. The black glutinous rice added a nutty, earthy, almost sweet contrast against the lechon. Paired with soft, creamy scrambled eggs and fresh veggies, it made for a well-rounded meal for any lechon lover.
Truffle Bacon Lechon Carbonara This carbonara was an indulgent treat. The creamy truffle sauce brought a richness to the dish, complemented perfectly by crispy bacon lechon slices. The poached egg on top added extra creaminess when mixed in, elevating the entire flavor. The combination of the truffle aroma, crispy lechon, and velvety pasta made this a truly comforting and guilty pleasuring dish. It’s a must-try for pasta lovers who love a good cream base.
Wild Mushroom Soup Served in a charming batirol pot, the wild mushroom soup was very thick, creamy, and full of deep, earthy mushroom flavors. The bread on the side was toasted well and comes with sweet chocolate sauce to complete the experience. This hearty starter was enhanced by the rustic presentation, adding to the overall experience.
Banana Shake The banana shake was refreshing and naturally sweet. I opted to have mine without adding milk, and it still turned out to be creamy and delicious. Light yet satisfying, it was awesome.
Tsokolateria at Greenbelt 5 is the place to go if you're looking for a unique blend of traditional Filipino comfort food with modern twists. Definitely a must-visit at least once if you’re up for trying lechon with a...
Read moreI've been meaning to visit this place for a while purely for their hot choco and finally took the opportunity today. I was just going to order-to-go but the atmosphere and décor inside just called me to take a moment to sit down. From the cutlery to the solihiya chairs to the lighting, this café feels traditional (a mix of Filipino & Hispanic) and unique yet homey. There's also a great view of the trees and pond outside of Greenbelt.
I was surprised to see that they offer quite a lot of food items aside from beverages and they have quite an extensive dessert/sweets menu as well, including ensaymadas, churros, and waffles, all with a unique twist. The type of menu that beckons you to come visit again so you can try the other drinks & dishes.
Being on a budget, I quickly looked away from the main dishes and ordered Tsokolate Ah (sweet) -- there's also one with a lechon chicharon disk that I'd like to try in the future -- and an Ube & Queso Danish (I first ordered the Jackfruit Danish but unfortunately, it wasn't available). My server happened to be the Assistant Manager (Gian) and he was quick to serve water when I first took a seat. I wasn't expecting a tsokolate de batirol demo so that was a really nice surprise. The tsokolate comes in a tiny taza and is quite thick. It was good but I found it a little too sweet, so it might have been better to get Tsokolate Eh (bitter) instead. However, the Ube & Kesong Puti Danish was really delicious and a perfect combo of sweet, salty, and nutty. This is also maybe the second eatery I've encountered in the PH where the server has asked how my order is.
It's a bit on the pricier side, but I would highly recommend this place to anyone for its unique menu, atmosphere and you really get a cultural experience since you typically see people making tsokolate de batirol in the provinces. The service was friendly and quick, too. Perfect...
