Living in Manila is like living in any "emerging" economy where the capital is the first city and the national gravity sucks in its general direction.

You get jaded, but not in a New Yorker, Parisian, Londoner, or Tokyoite way. It's a low-level Soylent Green vibe: bad traffic, worse air quality, people clamoring for bus seats, gratuitous noise, impossibly aggressive drivers intent on your imminent demise.

Then you stumble across a place like WG Restaurant. And it tells you what you need to know about the finer things in Manila — the things that don't inhabit luxury hotels or overly airconned shopping malls.

You can get great food for what might be the best deal in Makati. Tasty, individually prepared meals with vegan options from P200-350.

You sit perched across the street from The Saints Peter and Paul Church, founded by Franciscans in 1578 (apparently, there was some back and forth with the Jesuits) and overlooking a Jeepney drop-off/pick-up point. If it's your thing, you'll experience your authentic Philippines on the strength of location alone.

You experience a generous dose of Filipino hospitality from the owner who makes it his business to give you practical advice on navigating Manila — hit the Breakfast-Lunch or the Dinner window when he's taking orders.

Enjoy the great food, the authentic slice of Manila life, and the local travel guidance, but stay for a chill, breezy oasis atmosphere tucked into the Northwest corner of Makati.

Highly...

Me and my fiance were looking for some breakfast when we saw this really chill and beautiful little restaurant. We were greeted and welcomed in. The host, William was so nice. He gave us some advice about some of the menu options, which was so nice. The prices are great! You definitely get an amazing meal with drinks for a very low price. The food was so good and the Vietnamese coffee was exactly what we needed for our morning. William was so helpful and friendly. He even gave us some advice on some really cool adventures and even gave us some directions that don't require much taxis. To help us save some money. It was extremely nice and the atmosphere was so calm and welcoming. Definitely recommend this food spot to all, local or just here for a few days. It's a must. Will be eating there for the remainder...

so glad we found this spot! we were craving lechón kawali and were walking around when the restaurant owner called us in and we are so glad we decided to eat here! the food was so delicious. although lechón kawali wasn’t on the menu, they still made it for us! we also ordered the shanghai lumpia, pinoy beef steak, & fried rice and everything was fresh and delicious. the restaurant owner William was so friendly and made sure we were satisfied with our meal. I also ordered a coconut and after i finished the juice, he cracked the coconut open and poured some Vietnamese condensed milk which was such a treat. If you want authentic filipino food from a small and cozy spot, definitely check this place out. William also has great recommendations for tours in the area. Thank you for a lovely dinner...

There are 6 of us and two ordered the chicken adobo and two ordered steak. Another ordered soup and another ordered fried pork. All of it was delicious. The flavor for each meal was tasted from the first bite to the last. Not one of us left a grain of rice. The atmosphere was wonderful with the fans blowing overhead and the open air and noise coming through, making it feel very authentic. The service was wonderful and they were very attentive. We received wonderful advice on our stay here in Manila. The older gentleman was kind and speaks English extremely well. It turns out he lived in New Jersey (USA) for many years! We really want to come again but as exploratory tourists, we have to try other restaurants. I’m saving this place in my favorites for when I return in the future.
