Rumor Draft Bar and Restaurant — Restaurant in Panglao

Visited here for a meal and chose it because they advertised having a selection of draught beers. A bit difficult to find this bar as it is inside the Alona Garden Resort. They had 4 draught pumps on the bar but the barman informed me that they only had one of the 4 connected or there was a separate craft draught beer. I chose the bar pump one but when it arrived it was very cloudy and undrinkable. The waitress apologised saying that it was the last out of the barrel. They gave me a replacement Manila Caribou Craft which was worse, both in looks and taste. I was then informed that they had San Miguel draught which turned out to be excellent. I only had 2 of the SMs, the first cost 80 pesos, the second 95 pesos for some reason. The food was fine, my wife had Pork Sinigang and I chose the Lamb Burger after reading the reviews. To be honest, in a blind tasting, I would never have said it was lamb, it was served with a nice salsa salad and plain french fries. Tucked away in a small courtyard, Rumor is an elegantly appointed open air bar and restaurant with a nice selection of beers on tap and a suprisingly good European focused menu.

This is a step above the tourist-trap hotel restaurants with clear care to food preparation and attention to quality.

All the food is good, but my benchmark for quality is usually a hamburger. Easy to do. Hard to do well. Takes extra care and attention to do very well. They do theirs near perfectly.

Went on two separate nights while staying in Alona area. First night we went for the craft beer. Had a flight of four beers brewed locally and from nearby islands. Sat at the bar and had a lovely evening. We'd already eaten.

Second time we went primarily for the food. Waitress heard us pondering on the burgers and told us if we went for one we wouldn't regret it. We did and we definitely didn't regret it. Beautiful double smashed burger with bacon, cheese and chillies. Up there in our top five...
