While Ramen Cool may not quite reach the heights of well-known establishments like Ramen Nagi or Ippudo, it certainly holds its own by offering decent ramen and a selection of other Japanese dishes at a more affordable price point. This makes it an appealing option for those looking to satisfy their cravings without breaking the bank.
During our visit, the atmosphere was surprisingly calm, with only two other tables occupied. This made for a relaxed dining experience, although it left me wondering how the service would hold up during busier periods. Nevertheless, I was pleased to see that our orders arrived promptly, well within ten minutes, indicating that they are prepared to serve their guests efficiently even on quieter days.
If you find yourself in Kapitolyo, Pasig, and are in the mood for some comforting ramen, Ramen Cool is a solid choice. The menu features a variety of ramen options, each with its own unique flavors and toppings. While you might not be blown away by the experience, you can expect to enjoy a satisfying bowl that hits the spot. The flavors are well-balanced, and the noodles have the right texture, making it a worthwhile stop for any ramen enthusiast.
Overall, while Ramen Cool may not be the most extraordinary ramen experience, it certainly delivers on quality and value. You’ll leave feeling reasonably satisfied and ready to return for another bowl when the...
Read moreWhere the last several years have seen a rise of premium Japanese restaurants vying for the ultimate katsu or ramen experience, it's refreshing to see a Japanese restaurant stand its ground and maintain its offering of staple Japanese dishes at affordable prices, especially where its competitors have failed (We've seen a decline in establishments such as Teriyaki Boy, Kitaro, and Kimono Ken).
Ramen Cool offers more than just ramen—they have sushi, sashimi, gyoza, karaage, yakisoba, tofu, and tempura. They also do salads, curry, donburi, teppanyaki, and bento lunch sets.
In terms of refreshments, they have an array of teas and fruit juices and a playful coffee lineup (which I find too sweet). If you just want a quick bite and brewed coffee, they also have that.
If that's not enough to invite you, the restaurant itself has a spacious interior, with plenty of booths among Japanese-themed partitions. Service is decent, and they don't charge you for it.
My personal favorites are the gomoku ramen, which provides a hearty broth of chicken and vegetables for days when I'm feeling under the weather; mabo ramen, which is mabo tofu on ramen; and their salmon lovers don, which is a tiny rice bowl packed with flavours for my fellow salmon lovers out there.
If you pass by Kapitolyo, try to give the place a shot. They're modest, but...
Read moreI ordered their Shoyu Ramen (₱325) and Gyoza (₱245). The ramen’s broth is very light in flavor and the consistency was very thin for ramen, like it was watered-down or they didn’t simmer it for long enough. The noodles were too soft and didn’t taste like anything, since the broth was so thin that it didn’t adhere to the noodles.
The ramen was served with a generous portion of sliced green onion, it overpowered the broth, which was already flavorless, so it was like eating raw onions in lightly salted, warm water.
The gyoza (₱245) comes in 5 pcs. It’s served with kikkoman soy sauce, which is not great. The gyoza itself was big, but the portion of meat inside is actually very small. It was mostly flour.
The prices here are generally low. They don’t have a service charge, and offer affordable lunch sets from Monday through Saturday (SC/PWD discounts are not applicable for the sets, though). Despite this, the quality of the food is still not worth the low prices in my opinion....
