The last time we dined here was nearly a decade ago. Back then, I remember the chef was Japanese, and the food was excellent.
Fast forward to March 2025, and the dining experience has changed—unfortunately, not for the better.
To be clear, the food isn’t bad, but it no longer stands out. What was once exceptional is now just decent. When you factor in the high prices, the overall experience feels even less satisfying.
Chasyu Ramen – While not terrible, it was disappointing as a ramen dish. The flavors leaned more Filipino than Japanese, and even the ingredients felt more suited to a local adaptation rather than an authentic bowl of ramen.
California Maki – The rice used wasn’t premium Japanese sushi rice, which was a letdown, especially for a place like Haru.
Uni Donburi – A solid dish. My son, who loves uni, thoroughly enjoyed it.
Seafood Teppanyaki – Well-executed with a flavorful sauce, but a bit overpriced considering the seafood cuts used.
Gyuniku Teppanyaki (Australian Rib-Eye) – At just over 1,000 pesos, it was reasonably priced for the portion size. The beef was tender, and the sauce was well-balanced.
Moriawase Sushi – A standard sushi platter with fresh seafood. Nothing remarkable, but it was satisfying.
Edamame – Decent, though it could use more salt.
One thing that remains excellent is the service. Our waiter was friendly, efficient, and engaging without being intrusive—a true standout. Five stars for service.
Final Verdict:
While Haru still serves a decent meal, it no longer feels like a must-visit destination. The food is fine, but for the price, we expected more. If you’re looking for great service and a passable Japanese meal, it’s worth a visit—but if you’re after an authentic, top-tier experience, you might leave...
Read moreThis is my second visit, and most likely my last. Reason is, even though the food for me is flavorful and good, their service is the worst I have witnessed in Manila. On my first visit, I asked for fruit shakes as our drinks. The day was hot, therefore I asked the server if he can please bring the drinks out prior to the food. At this time I also asked for service water. The water was served promptly, but the shakes did not come until after the food. Even while we were waiting for our food, we asked the server about the shakes and he informed us they were coming out. No they were not, and did not come out until after our food order arrived.
On our second visit, I ordered ramen to share with my girlfriend. I asked the server to bring an extra bowl in order to split the ramen in two. The server said no problem, that he would bring it. Nope, the ramen arrived and no extra bowl. I asked the server again, and he said sure no problem, nope....he never brought the bowl. Another server was serving a different table and I asked her for the same thing, an extra bowl. I also said in a very nicely manner, that I had asked for a bowl on three occasions now.
The service at this restaurant is horrid. It totally ruins any mood you may had to enjoy good sushi. It is not a big restaurant, nor is it so busy for them to forget so many things. Maybe it's a total lack of experience or what, but because they have failed to meet basic expectations I will not revisit or recommend...
Read moreThe food here is more of a Japanese inspired Filipino food, not an authentic Japanese restaurant.
Ordered the ff: • Salmon sashimi - fresh and very aestheic plating, but the serving's a bit small
• Spider Design Maki - 5 rolls, pretty plating. Taste is ok.
• Tenzaru Soba - Generic soba, regular serving.
• Chasu Ramen - Does not taste anything like ramen, tastes like Chinese noodle soup. It has green and red bell peppers and onions. Chasu is very thin. We asked to split ours into 2 bowls.
• Haru Ramen - very filling, also tastes like Chinese noodles with seafood. Squid was very tender.
• Yakiniku Rice Bowl - very filling, but taste is average. Meat was not fatty.
• Chawanmushi - majority consists of mushrooms. The filling is mostly on top, with 1 shrimp and 1 chicken. Taste was pretty average
• Dobin mushi - good clear soup with small bits of chicken, mushroom and fish.
• Tofu Gyuniku Steak - tofu is missing the Japanese taste, tastes like regular sizzling tofu with mushrooms on top.
Service staff were nice. They provide service tea.
Atmosphere is an eccletic collection of random Japanese items. Too chaotic for me, the interior is very overwhelming. BG music was on...
