We CANNOT recommend this hotel anymore. We have stayed in the past and USED to think it was wonderful. Bottom line- infested with roaches of all sizes from as small as a grain of rice up to the size of your finger!
We booked a 2 bedroom suite for a family of six adults for an entire week. The actual suite was spacious and comfortable for us all- one bedroom (with king size bed, baby crib, and full bathroom), one bedroom with two individual beds, separate bathroom, kitchen space (with fridge, microwave, stove top) and enough living room space for dining table, desk, couch/tv and 2 extra wheel-in individual beds. They have a changing menu full breakfast buffet downstairs (extra cost) which is also delicious. The door staff is amazingly helpful with bags, upon arrival and exit, catching a taxi. Sounds like a dream…
However from day one it was anything but that. We traveled from overseas and our family from hours away so we could all stay together and enjoy Manila during the holidays. The first night upon arriving there was no hot water- we have lolas and baby staying here and needed to call 4 times before the issue was resolved- first 24 hours with absolutely no hot water to clean up after a long day of travels, totally unacceptable. We also noticed many bugs immediately upon arrival. We asked to switch rooms. Every call they never followed up- we had to keep calling to check status. It was always that they would check or ask the supervisor.
Our family on day 2 were coming back up after a long day out and ended up getting stuck in the elevator! Somebody from the hotel had to come and get the door open.
We had asked for more towels- they only gave us 4 total for the group of 6+baby. They said they didn’t have any towels to give and we could only have one more.
Only after a formal in person complaint with the supervisor did we notice a change in the staff- they were following up with our requests finally…on DAY 4 of our stay!! They finally offered another room (after a formal in person complaint with the supervisor). By that time we are already all settled and leaving in a few days. We also don’t know if the room change will stop the roach infestation, we believe it’s the entire hotel. We asked for partial refund considering everything. The only thing they offered for all our troubles was one day breakfast for 4, not even enough for our entire party- we had to request that they even consider taking care of the entire party which they eventually obliged. This did not make up at all for all the troubles we encountered.
We at one point looked at other hotels before deciding it would be too much trouble to move the entire family because of our full schedule and how hard it is to get around in the city with 4 seniors and a baby. But there are some other really great options! Look elsewhere and save yourself the trouble of making sure you have no stowaway roaches in your luggage.
I sincerely hope they fix the issues but based on the conversations we had and the lack of any initiative I only foresee it getting worse. And based on our experiences this time, I will not be back to...
Read moreFirst time staying at this location and were referred here as part of an event we were attending in Manila. Overall my family and I were not impressed with the hotel. From a location perspective, its close to the SM Megamall as well as Shangri-La Plaza, close enough to walk if you can handle the weather. There are other shops, eateries and small convenience stores nearby too. I believe the hotel has a shuttle though we didn't use it. Nearly all the people that work here are great, excellent customer service, most everyone tried to go out of their way to make our stay comfortable. We stayed in a two bedroom suite which included a kitchen. The issues we had were with the building itself, not sure how old the place is but it certainly seemed like it was an older building. The elevators run very slow and one of them is dangerous, it closes on people even while they are in the doorway. It slammed into my father in law a couple of times as he was getting on, pretty sure any sensor there doesn't exist or its broken. There is no air conditioning in the hallways or elevators, so be prepared to go from a comfortable room to extremely uncomfortable common areas. The rooms were nice and laid out well but the beds were not the most comfortable and the bathrooms were very small, especially for counter space. We encountered roaches repeatedly, not something you expect in a higher end hotel. Even though the room was a 2 bedroom suite and could easily sleep 6 people, you can only reserve it for 4 and then they charge you per day for each additional guest. Already paying for an extra large room and then having to pay extra to fully occupy it does not make it good value at all. On top of that we waited while being told the room was being inspected to ensure it was ready for us. As soon as we entered the room we found our first roach and second, we paid for 5 people to occupy the room but only had 4 towels. Pointing this out because when we called to ask for the additional towels, we were told we would have to pay an extra fee until we reminded them we paid for 5 people. Point being if the room was being inspected seems like these were things that should have been noticed. In summary not sure we will be staying at the Astoria next...
Read moreWe are Club Astoria members but we haven't been back to our home hotel for a decade as we opted to try other properties. So when we checked in for a 5-day staycation, I was really impressed by the efficient service.
We were immediately greeted and assisted by bell service upon arrival. Our room was already prepared so check-in was a breeze. Housekeeping visited us occasionally to ask if we need anything. They were all accommodating without being intrusive. We were given a welcome tray of fruits. They also brought us iced tea later on.
The room was spacious and clean. The kitchen has all the necessary utensils, cookware, and appliances (microwave, ref, induction cooker, oven toaster, electric kettle, rice cooker) and a five-gallon drinking water. They provided dishwashing liquid and sponge plus a kitchen rag to wipe surfaces off.
They didn't clean daily but guests can request for fresh towels and additional toiletries anytime.
There's also a shuttle service twice daily to and from Megamall and Shangri-la. But the hotel is still within walking distance from the said malls and is about 400 meters away from Capitol Commons/Estancia Mall.
There's not much within the vicinity of the hotel except for two convenience stores (Ministop and 7-11), Jollibee, Greenwich, and Red Ribbon, and a couple of Korean restos.
Our room didn't come with free breakfast but they provided a buy1take1 coupon for six pax daily for P850 per coupon (or P425 per pax). Breakfast choices were limited but good enough for the price. The wait staff were very attentive too.
WiFi service was strong and free. They gave us two accounts which can accommodate four devices each.
If there was any con that I can think of, it would be the restroom. The toilet does not have a bidet. There's a bathtub but no separate shower so it would be a struggle for the elderly or PWD.
Edit: i saw some photos posted by other reviewers showing a more modern bathroom with just a shower. I think it can be requested if a bathtub is...
