Food is amazing and worth all the other issues, but the place needs a renovation immediately - especially the washroom.
One of the OG places, especially in Kapitolyo, and their food is just perfection. I always crave for their beef skewers which are always cooked how you want it. If you want it medium, it will be medium. Their pork chop is also one of the best and the rice that comes along with it is perfect. The only potential improvement maybe to add new items - maybe elotes? Titto's (about half a kilometer away) serves amazing elotes and birrias.
Service wise, the staff are actually very nice and attentive but you may have to call their attention during peak hours as they can be extremely busy. They do try their best so giving them a 4 stars only because for some reason getting the bill can sometimes take a long time. They were also cash only in my recent visits but I'm not sure if that's just temporary so the first time I experienced this I had to walk a few blocks to the nearest bank (which is quite far and an uphill walk) to withdraw money.
Now for the bad: the place is really showing it's age. The paint and furniture are really old and has been like that for ages. The al fresco area can be a little hot but they do try their best with multiple fans. While those are actually manageable, using their comfort room/washroom/loo is typically a terrible idea. It's not a joy to look at especially before your meals. We have tried our best not to use it but sometimes circumstances will really force you to. It's directly connected to the kitchen as well so I'm unsure how that may have an effect on the smell. I typically also can withstand and expect a certain pungency with public restrooms, but I have to cover my nose with my shirt while peeing on the urinal most of the time. Now, this is doubly bad if you're a girl. You would not dare lay your raw bottom on the toilet and would be forced to do the squat., However, this would put your face smack in front of the urinal and it's collective aroma. My girl nearly lost her appetite after trying to pee while waiting for our food.
I'm unsure what their challenges or future plans are but I hope renovation is part of it. Even with all that, it's the good food that keeps me...
Read moreThis is the first time I've been in the very first silantro fil-mex branch. We arrived their with a packed indoor tables so we decided to be at the outdoor tables, it's nice cause they got fans accomodating all persons so we didn't get sweaty as we dine.
Ordered their *caliente wings - it has the barbecue spicy kick at the end and they got the big ones served, mind you there were 6 (I guess?) Pieces we ate. A bang for the buck *Beef nachos - nachos with beef chunks, cheese, tomatoes and all that mexican jazz. They got these 3 sauces [mild(white), guac?(green one), then the spicy one (yellow)] and everything fits perfectly. Better eat it while it is still crisp. *burrito - man, that made me full for the whole night. I think that burrito plus the 3 sauce they have makes it satisfyingly delicious to my taste. Mix or just pick one sauce, or even without the sauce, the burrito is a must try if it is your first time.
Staff - staff is very accomodating, they even provide us plastic gloves for as we smother those chicken wings, just ask for extra napkins and they'll give it generously, billing is fast as you ask it, and even by asking for a picture to be taken, staff knows how shutter works expecially in low light.
Venue, it's very unique, they got a lot of artwork displayed in their walls, which is another instagrammable if you ask me.
Will definitely comeback, this is like a comfort...
Read moreThe nachos were generous in serving. The melty cheese, chopped tomatoes, and beef cuts combined, chef’s kiss👨🍳😗. So good. I loved how they didn't use shredded meat. Most nachos that use shredded meat are a hit or miss for me; usually a miss when the meat isn't seasoned well leading to umay :/ Silantro used small cubed beef. Small but juicy and tender! Sorry there's no pic, we devoured it instantly before I could take a decent pic for my blog 😅
As for the tacos, we ordered the double meat of chicken and beef. Juicy and tender din 🙌 Was so good I gobbled it in seconds. They had lamb as a meat option but unfortunately it was unavailable that time (and yesterday, even if we went there earlier than last time). I think it’s best if you go early like lunchtime or call in to check if they have it available that day.
But above the two things we ordered, the commendable stars were the white and green sauces. The white sauce was garlic. I inherently like garlic so it's an automatic like for me. I’m not sure what the green sauce was; I thought it was like a guac in liquid form, but it tastes like cucumber. Great nonetheless since it balances out the savoriness of everything else. The darker green was just the spicy version.
Out of all the restos in Kapitolyo, Silantro definitely stands out— with the line of cars it's hard to miss. Overall, the socmed postings were worth the...
