So, I'm going to tell you a kind of story because this review is based on multiple experiences of this restaurant over the last 2-plus years. As I am a resident of Pueto Princesa, I have had the opportunity to visit this establishment on several occasions. The first couple times were mainly a quick stop during our daily routine to check this place out. A couple of beers and a bit of chit-chat with employees, etc. The atmosphere is amazing and makes one want to sit down and order food. Sometime back, my wife and I stopped in for lunch. My order was a simple sandwich and her order was a rice bowl with pork of some kind. Upon receiving our food, my wife almost choked on her first taste. It tasted like someone spilled an entire salt shaker in her dish. At her request, I tasted it and cringed at the saltiness of the meal. It was not edible. We persuaded the server to taste it and she made a face like she was going to gag and throw up. She took it back to the kitchen and a while later returned with a similar dish, only this one had some sort of chicken in it. My wife was upset and didn't eat it. We paid our bill and left. We hadn't returned for a long time until recently in November 2024. This time, I brought my daughter, son in law, and grandchildren who were visiting from the U.S. I remember thinking I'll give them another chance, mainly because of the decor and atmosphere. DISASTER!! We went in for lunch and we were the only party there. We asked our server for a small fruit plate to pacify the 2 and 3 year old with us while we looked over the menu. 20 minutes went by and no server in sight after she disappeared. I went to the counter and loudly called out, " Hello" several times. She finally appeared from the kitchen with a small plate of a cut up apple. Ok, fine. But now we're 30-plus minutes into our sit down and we haven't had a chance to order drinks or appetizers. She took our drink order and disappeared again. Finally we ordered and 2 small appetizers. During this 25 minute wait, another couple and their small child arrived and sat forever with no service. By the time we got our appetizers, they obviously had enough of waiting and got up and left. Thinking how long everything took to do, we decided to skip lunch and go elsewhere. Who knows how long it would have taken to get main entrees. Word to the wise: Avoid this place at all costs. You will be severly disappointed. I did 20 years in senior restaurant management and I can tell you this place has no clue what's going on. Even with their nicely...
Read moreThe place looks great, tucked into a quiet neighborhood with a large parking space. Interiors are very cozy and chill. Unfortunately that’s pretty much where it ends. Arrived at Max and Bunny before 12 noon to order some drinks and food for take out. I was informed that sadly pizzas specifically the Max and Bunny, were not available due to the kitchen was baking their breads and pastries so they couldn’t do it at the same time. Sure no problem, though why are they baking during lunch time I’ll never know.
Decided to order their Nacho Chips, Weiner Schnitzel, Palatschinken, Iced Latte Macchiato, and a Matcha milk tea. Staff informed me that it would take 30 minutes as there were others who ordered before me. No problem with me as well, I was willing to wait for it.
So I waited. Patiently waited. Around the 30 minute mark, my food was nowhere to be seen. I followed up with the staff and off they went. I keep waiting again. They give me a plate of sliced toast and some kind of garlic oil. The hour mark comes and I realize that I’ve been sitting here for an hour and no one has even approached me again. I get angry and ask where the heck is the food? The staff are “apologetic” and explain that there’s only one person in the kitchen and she had to help them out. I ask when would my food come out? They inform me that the food for another table has come out and it will take another 20 minutes for my food to come out. The table they were referring to was already at there when I arrived and I am flabbergasted at the service and lack of transparency. If they couldn’t handle the order they should’ve just refused instead of letting customers wait till the end of time.
I finally get the food and leave after an hour and a half. When I get back to the hotel I find out that there are no utensils at all and the coffee is so bitter I thought I was drinking plain black coffee. The only redeeming quality of the whole experience was that the Schnitzel and Nachos were good, but no waiting 1 and 1/2 hour good. The schnitzel was quite dark as well and looked to be fried in old oil. Such a bad experience with this place. Not...
Read moreThis place is a hidden gem in the middle of the City in the Forrest that is Puerto Princessa. As soon as you walk in, you are transported into a magical place that marries both the roots of the motherland and the foreign places we all hope and dream to visit someday. The menu is unlike anything I have ever seen taking staple dishes from different lands and brings them all within reach. The food is made to order, never premade, always prepared with care. The staff are very polite and cordial, going the extra mile as to even refuse to pass anything across table but rather hand them to you directly at your side. My favorite dishes were the Salmon Carbonara, the Salpicao, and most of all the Schnitzel. I found myself wanting to have all of my meals at the place. My favorite part of the experience that is Max & Bunny is how I felt so at home there. The feeling of belonging was so strong from the hospitality I was shown. Definitely a must visit when in town or passing through to your final destination. Thank You Lee, hope to see...
