This is more of a Japanese Fusion Restaurant.
The food quality in relation to the price is decent. The serving sizes are small, except for the lunch bento boxes. Pretty food presentation. Food is inconsistent.
Service was good. We didn't have to call for them to refill our cups with hot/cold tea. BG music sounded more of an elevator music rather than for a restaurant.
Their toilet doesn't have a sink.
Food that we ordered
• Aburi Salmon Belly Sushi The rice breaks apart when you pick it up. Nothing special.
• Hamachi shabu shabu Do not be fooled by its name. This is not the usual shabu shabu that you would order in a restaurant. The Hamachi is sliced very thinly and placed over shredded radish to make it look pretty.
• Saba shioyaki gozen This bento is very filling and worth the price point. We ordered 3 sets. 1 out of 3 sets, the fish was hard and overcooked. Red bean ice cream was good, but more on the milky/creamy side.
• Assorted sashimi 5 kinds The slices were a bit thin, but the quality is good.
• Pan fried coated tuna with 7 kinds Japanese chili in miso butter sauce Taste is more butter than miso, not spicy. Nothing special also.
• Fukudaya roll Rolls were hard to pick up. Some of the rice breaks apart. Pretty presentation, but nothing special.
• Fukudaya gozen Steak was tough to chew and a bit on the salty side.
• Grilled Spanish mackarel marinated in miso and shiitake cream paste The sauce/marinate was tasty, but the mackarel was overcooked. The...
Read moreLove this restaurant tucked away in Arya Plaza. Parking is free - with validation from the restaurant. When we went, we were the only Filipinos eating. 4 other tables of Japanese nationals. That says something about their food!
Their sashimi - we had tuna and salmon - was firm and was some of the freshest I've had in the city. Their tempura had a light and fluffy batter matched with a perfectly seasoned sauce. We also tried the Eggplant and Tofu appetizer which was great as well. Then the Grilled Salmon Head which truly exceed our expectations pertaining to serving size and flavor.
A bonus that we really liked was their take on Fresh Oysters served in a shell. That's a must-try for sure!
Their prices really give you value for your money, but be prepared to shell out a bit. Nevertheless, cost aside, the experience, friendly staff and amazing food make coming here well worth it. We will...
Read moreThis is my second visit to Fukudaya, and unfortunately, my experience has not improved. The atmosphere still feels unwelcoming. During our visit between 1-3 PM, the staff appeared to be busy with tasks that didn’t seem to require immediate attention, despite only 2-3 tables being occupied.
We ordered the gyudon, but it lacked flavor—almost as if it were missing salt or the signature gyudon sauce. On top of that, the unexpected addition of mushrooms was puzzling and didn’t contribute positively to the dish. The sashimi was standard, but nothing remarkable.
Given the overall experience, I believe a convenience store in this building would be a better option if you're hungry. The prices seem excessive for a restaurant that provides subpar service. It felt as if the staff wanted us to leave quickly, especially since they close at 3 PM and...
