Dined it at their original resto in Pasig when they started (very good food!) so i was really excited that they opened in BGC. Made a reservation for lunch in advance (even if we're not a big group, only 1 table), arrived on time, and ordered properly. But we were majorly so disappointed with the service, and the quality of the food. Our server forgot to punch in order 2 of 2.
Late arrival of food - "apologies, there are few kitchen staff who came to work because from yesterday's new year's eve countdown event (if they were opened until midnight?). Some of them are absent". However, we saw other big group's table who didn't wait too long for their orders. Also, do they only have 1 set of kitchen staff or chef only from Mon-Sun operating hours? We, as diners, are not naive..unless the management here is not implementing shifting schedule?
2nd order was not punched in by our server, therefore kitchen did not prepare which will add in our waiting time when our steak set have arrived already - "apologies, i got confused with the big group's order so i left out your 2nd order." I understand there are no perfect servers, however, we are only a small group who ordered 2 items (ribeye steak set and pasta). How can she leave that out?
Table next to us, who arrived and ordered later than us, have their starters food quick. They said because their order is faster to cook. But isn't it when you cook and rest a steak, it shouldn't take too long?
The whole time we were waiting, our server did not check on us. We followed up twice, and even asked what was their prep time but the manager could not even answer. I mean, in other steakhouse, they will know what to say. We felt discriminated just because we are a small group as opposed to a bigger party. We're not even walk-in diners.
The manager said it's a busy time because they are full. This is why they have a reservation system so they can anticipate no of diners, and they have in place their table setting plus the fact that it is expected because it's a holiday. It is supposed to be full so that the business will thrive. I mean should this be a valid explanation for poor service?
Sometimes, it's so tiring to hear the word "pasensya na po kasi..." when i think overall, they just really forgot about our orders! The staff offered to give our lunch for free but we declined. I hope the owners are reading reviews so they can re-train their employees. The food served to us was not great either so it doesn't compensate the poor service. For us, we will never dine at...
Read moreI first dined at their Estancia branch in 2023 with my family, and the experience was underwhelming at that time relative to their price range.
This time around, I tried their BGC branch with work colleagues, and the experience was significantly better.
The food we ordered were quite delicious but, just like before, not exactly cheap. Their Beef Salpicao was the best I’ve ever had so far. The beef cubes, though not melt-in-your-mouth, were tender. The accompanying Steak Rice was delicious too. But considering that the meal was almost 900 pesos, I thought that the serving size of the rice was a litte inadequate. For soup, I ordered their Prawn Bisque. It also didn’t disappoint in terms of taste, but the serving size did. At almost 400 pesos, the serving size felt inadequate too — and it came with only one small size prawn.
I was not able to try my colleagues’ food (a variety of pasta; an all-day-breakfast plate of ribeye, eggs and veggies), but they said theirs were very delicious too, and I take their word for it.
As for desserts, our group had, and shared amongst ourselves, the Truffle Chocolate Cake, Carrot Cheesecake, and some kind of banana crepe than didn’t look like crepe at all. I’d say each one was amazing, and could hold its own against anything Amici, Mary Grace or Contis throws at it.
As for their wait staff, considering that this is a relatively expensive restaurant, were less than stellar. I mean, they’re not rude or anything, but I didn’t see any enthusiasm in them. If this was a cheaper restaurant, I would have given their service 4 stars, but since they’re a relatively expensive restaurant, I give them 3 stars for their service.
As for the atmosphere, I’m also giving them 3 stars. This branch is cramped — Estancia’s branch is bigger — and VERY noisy, almost like a “palengke” experience. Or maybe it just so happened that at the time of our visit, the crowd was particularly talkative / boisterous.
Overall, Hai Chix is a competent restaurant that is a much-less-expensive alternative to Wolfgang’s Steakhouse, Wagyu Manila, and El Gaucho. I wouldn’t recommend their steaks (at least based on our first dining experience at their Estancia branch), but their Beef Salpicao and variety of desserts...
Read moreHai Chix and Steaks, where every dish is a testament to flavor and finesse. We had the pleasure of dining with friends at their BGC branch. The overall ambiance inside and outside of the restaurant is lively and fun. Perfect place for a night out with friends or a family celebration.
Let's dive into the star of the show—the steaks. Succulent and perfectly cooked, each bite is a symphony of flavors. But what sets them apart? The crunchy steak pieces adorning the top add a delightful crunch that takes the experience to a whole new level. What a great topping!
Next up, the creamy truffle pasta. Reminiscent of my childhood favorite pasta carbonara, this dish is a comforting embrace of rich flavors and velvety textures. It's the kind of dish that lingers in your memory, beckoning you to return for more. And yes, our table ordered more after the first one! There were many other orders, each one brought delight, bite after bite.
And let's not forget Cooper's Coffee Haus, the dessert section of Hai Chix and Steaks within the same space. The ube drink—a refreshing elixir that captivates with its vibrant hue and tantalizing taste is just amazing! Sip by sip, it transports you to a world of sweetness and bliss, leaving you craving another glass. If I wasn't worried about my tight pant waistband, I would have ordered another.
And of course - the desserts. From the indulgent Banana Nutella Brulee to the irresistible Vanilla Biscoff Crunch Crepe, each sweet treat is a masterpiece in its own right. With every bite, you're transported to dessert heaven, and trust me, you'll be dreaming about these delights for weeks to come.
Hai Chix and Steaks - can't wait to come back when my family and I visit Manila again! ...
