TLDR: Don't think, just go there and let them do the job.
Let's get right into it, folks—dining at CANIS in Gdańsk is like hitting the jackpot in the culinary lottery. Starting off with the Asparagus Stracciatella, and wow, just wow! It's not every day you find a chef this age who can turn something as simple as asparagus into a show-stopper, but here we are. It's a dish that captures your palate and doesn’t let go—trust me, it's that good. Those of us who know how to cook know that you can tell the cook from the asparagus and... here it's in a league of its own. Real Madrid in their glory.
Moving on to the main event—the lamb. This is the kind of lamb that falls apart at the mere suggestion of a fork, boasting flavors so rich they'd make a Scot from the Highlands nod in approval. And let’s not gloss over the salad with vegan feta—an innovative twist that'll have even the staunchest dairy lovers questioning their life choices.
The ambiance? It's top-notch—fine dining stripped of its usual stiffness. The space is a visual feast, with an artful blend of glass and mirrors that makes you feel secluded yet completely at home among fellow gastronomes. I'm absolutely blown away by the radiators left in their original form and folks, a wall with windows leading to a view outside? The matching of the subtle colours, someone's put a lot of thought and work into this.
And the service—oh, the service! An 11/10 experience, especially if you're served by the guy with the significant glasses. He’s not just a “waiter”; he's your evening's guide to gastronomic bliss. We ordered wine and thought we made the best choice? Here, they're not afraid to tell you that you might have been wrong and recommend a better one. And we enjoyed it! The openness? That's how you know a cone place where you want to eat to celebrate your small and big successes and feel human.
Finally, celebrating a birthday here? Best. Decision. Ever. My partner and I, hailing all the way from Prague, have decided to make this an annual tradition. No matters how many kilometers away. Because when the food is this divine, the setting this exquisite, and the service this impeccable, why wouldn't you?
Bottom line: If CANIS isn’t on your list, you’re missing out on one of the best dining experiences out there. Book that table, and prepare to be amazed!

Read moreBefore we came, people we know told us they didn't like this place specifically because the food was "weird" which to us, sounded like a ringing endorsement. As we expected, the food was good! It features some classic dishes with a few twists.
We started with the Salted Cod "doughnuts" which, let's be real here, were croquettes. Either way, super tasty as croquettes usually are. We also got the agnalotti which were deep fried. It was also delicious and we enjoyed all of the assorted seeds that came along with it but all in all the dish was a bit dry. It could have used just a touch of some kind of sauce over the top.
My main dish was the Ossobuco which I can definitely recommend. The meat was braised to melt-in-your-mouth perfection and the demi-glace was both rich and acidic which worked perfectly with the meat. The Polenta fries? You get two of those so savor them. They make you want more which is good, in a way. It also comes with a couple pieces of perfectly blanched broccolini which is my favorite vegetable so not much more to say there.
My daughter got the Smash Burger which I tried and was also good. I can recommend it for anyone not quite up for anything too adventurous but the bacon jam adds a nice upscale touch.
For dessert, we went with the Tiramisu and Creamaux. Both were excellent. My daughter loved the Creamaux while my wife and I preferred the Tiramisu. The Tiramisu had a more understated, subtle, mellow flavor. The Creamaux came with a nice, bright, sharp sauce that really let's the dish shoot through your tongue.
Also, I need to mention that when you receive your main course, they bring a small selection of sides for the table to share. Kind of like a Banchan in a Korean restaurant except these were some potatoes, salad and fries. It was unexpected but very welcome. Each small dish was perfect. I don't usually like potatoes very much but...
Read moreExcellent food, excellent service and well worth the price. We dined with a big party (20+ participants) on September 17th. Starters to share and main course to chose. Food arrived well timed and everyone enjoyed it. The starters included roe deer tartar, Soft shell crab, baked sturgeon dumplings and a tart with tabbouleh salad/ bulgur and some condiments. All very tasty but I especially enjoyed the perfectly seasoned tartar. For the main I went with Meagre, a new fish to me, served with chanterelle, creme fraiche, orzo, broccoli and young beetroot. The fish was cooked to perfection and I even heard some guys in our party that quite enjoyed it, despite not normally even liking fish at all. Perfect size portions and a nice presentation.
I had a very tasty pinot grigio with the fish, rekommendation from our head waiter. We ended dinner with a vegan chocolate tart served with fruits and hazelnut. First time trying a vegan dish actually... and it was great! This restaurant slso has a quite good avec selection to choose from and they have wines for all tastes and budgets. Dinner was paired with live music. Unfortunately a bit hard to hear over the noise... but that falls mainly on our loud crowd... 😅 I highly recommend this gem... on walking distance just off the main street. We stayed for close to 4 hours which I think is a testament to everyone enjoying themselves. Don't miss out if you are in Gdansk and in the mood for...
