Though my first visit to this restaurant did not leave a good impression, I decided to give it another shot, since the ambiance was amazing, & the menu looked like a great one for sampling authentic Polish cuisine.
I first showed up on a Monday night, just me dining solo, without a reservation. They had signs & menus in polish/English/ Russian, & a sign that said to wait at the stand, just outside the restaurant doors (where it was COLD), for a waiter to seat you. I did this, but despite being looked at repeatedly by several servers over the course of about 10 minutes, I was never even approached, much less seated.
Okay, weird…but, I’m traveling, so maybe I just don’t understand the custom. So, I enter the restaurant doors & now stand inside. Same thing happens: 4+ servers walk past me, standing there alone in the doorway, clearly looking to be seated, or at least approached. Nothing happens after about another 5-7 minutes. Finally, I decide to politely stop a server & ask him if I can have dinner for 1. He says “oh, we’re full”. Great. Thanks for maybe telling me this when I first entered almost 20 minutes ago, while your entire staff just stared at me. Annoyed, I left & ate elsewhere.
Came back the next day during a much less busy lunch period, & the service THIS time was great. Very friendly english-speaking waitress seated me immediately, & quickly served me a delicious, hearty & warming authentic Polish meal.
Started with grilled Tatar cheese (a favorite!) & bacon with tiny pickled beets, & then moved on to the main dish of homemade polish sausage with grilled onions, fresh horseradish & pickles. They also brought me complimentary fresh bread with lard (whipped bacon fat, tasty & rich) & “cottage cheese” (more of a cream cheese seasoned with herbs). All washed down with hot mulled beer with cloves, which I’d never had before (it was good, but I think I still prefer the hot mulled red wine).
A great meal in a fantastic setting with good service (at least, the second visit). I will be trying their zurek soup (another favorite) next, as it is served in a bread bowl, & looked/ smelled delicious. Let just hope the next time they see me, they’ll approach & seat me…this was my only complaint. Otherwise, a solid choice...
Read moreWe had dinner there on our last night in Krakow, and it was by far the worst experience we had on the entire trip. It is unclear how this place got such good reviews on Google, though the design and atmosphere were good, and the waitress was a very nice person. We ordered the food and asked to get the dishes together. I got my dish, which was not tasty and I only ate it because I was hungry. (It was definitely the worst cabbage rolls I have ever eaten.) My partner kept waiting for his dish for a very long time. At some point we wanted to leave and cancel his dish that was not served. The waiter called the person in charge, who said she was really sorry, but couldn't cancel the dish at this stage and forced us to wait for many more minutes until it finally arrived. She argued with us and showed us that the menu says (in the drink section) that serving the dishes takes between 20 and 40 minutes. It took much more than 40 minutes, and it is also very unlikely to bring dishes to a table of two people with such a time difference. If that how it is, the waitress should inform about it while taking the order. The very long waiting, the serving of our dishes with such time differences, and the annoying attitude of the person in charge really ruined the experience for us. In addition, as mentioned, the food was not tasty at all. We absolutely do not recommend visiting...
Read moreThis restaurant is a good representation of the Polish culture. It combines the flavors and the culture of this country at the same time. This is because of the amazing flavors that the food can offer and the traditional show which you can enjoy if you go there at the right time. They offer a free show of the traditional singing and dancing with the traditional costumes as well. The place is designed in a way to show how older traditional buildings looked like in their interior and the building itself is just breathtaking. The amount of food that they offer is great and the prices as where they are supposed to be. The staff were really friendly and professional. Have in mind that even if you will not be able to watch the show with the dancers and the singers that the music is in general a bit louder than what someone would expect it to be. P.s trasitional Polish music. Lastly, they serve some home made bread slices with goat cheese and fat as a starter, before they bring you the...
