Myself and my two young daughters visited this restaurant on March 5, 2025 in the evening. The place was not very busy. I was traveling with my little kids as a solo mother. When I first opened the restaurants door, I understood something is wrong with this restaurant as I have a stroller and their door is very heavy no one came to help until I got inside. I found this attitude very rude. Then a waiter showed the most suitable place. My two-year old daughter wanted to sit down on their cloth covered chair. Then after two minutes we sat, she sat she needs to pee (she is on a potty training therefore I have been carrying potty everywhere), it was so urgent (only people can understand this who have a kid!) and I did not see any sign for bathroom and I did not want to make the chair wet, I put the potty under the table and she used it so quickly without disturbing anyone. Then all of sudden, that waiter appeared with a very angry face saying 'do not do this here is a restaurant!!' I explained to him it was so urgent and I did not want to make the chair and the ground wet and where the bathroom is not clear. Then I went to bathroom as he showed where it is to clean the potty. I carried the whole potty to the bathroom again not disturbing anyone. Until that moment I was certain to stay the restaurant and eat. I tried to understand their situation as well.
Then when I was in the bathroom another blonde lady came and literally yelling at me in front of my English speaking kids, 'DO NOT DO THIS NEVER EVER AGAIN! DO YOU THINK HERE IS A VILLAGE?' She said many more ridiculous and rude things. I was explaining her how it was beyond of my control and matter of a second. Obviously she came to keep arguing and to give my lesson!! This was really unnecessary and escalated the situation from their side as I kept mostly quiet only asking for some empathy! Then I got my kids and left this hostile place. The fact that we did not make any mess, I did not speak rudely either. We are talking about a two-year old baby, not an adult! I am sure if an adult person smokes inside, their reaction would be much less rude and hostile.
It was very overwhelming situation for my and kids! But thanks God we found a child friendly restaurant right across this restaurant where we found a warm welcome!
Being a traditional Polish restaurant in the middle of old town makes you a touristic enterprise as well, and tourism needs flexibility and understanding and of course politeness but unfortunately these are the characteristics that this restaurant does not have. I wish I could have reported you Polish Ministry of Tourism.
So I DO NOT recommend this family and child unfriendly place for especially families!
And dear blonde lady! Next time I will consult you before I travel with my kids! Even though we experienced such an unpleasant thing, Krakow is such a great place and full of nice...
Read moreAVOID if you have young children or functioning taste buds. Children are NOT welcome here - however this review is not based on the restaurant’s unfriendly policy, but on the rude behavior of the staff and on the below quality food (the fried cabbage and potato pancakes with mushroom sauce were especially dull and tasteless). I have never had such a bland version of these dishes in Poland! But I would like to elaborate on the terrible service:
On 23 July 2025 my wife and I arrived with our 1 year old in a stroller. The young hostess invited us inside but let us know there was no baby chair available. That’s fine, our baby can sit in a standard chair with us holding her. But as she is a toddler…she likes to toddle around. So either my wife or I will hold the baby’s hands and walk outside together or around the table. Pretty standard stuff which we have done in many restaurants in Poland and all over the world without issue.
Up to this point there was no mention that the restaurant is not accepting children. In fact we were already walking the baby around inside and outside before our drink and food orders were taken. Again no mention anywhere that kids are not welcome….
As soon as our food arrived we did the usual routine - 1 parent eats their food and 1 parent feeds the baby or walks around holding her hand. This was ok for a few minutes until a lady with a very heavy presence (maybe a manager?) appeared and told us it was NOT OK to be walking around with the baby and in a very rude way said “this is not a kid friendly restaurant.”
Well that’s great to know after we have been invited inside and had our orders taken! But what made it worse is that the lady (manager?) then lectured us in a very condescending and patronizing way about child safety. We take this topic very seriously, which is why we don’t let the toddler run wild but always with a parent holding their hand.
I completely understand if you don’t want children in your restaurant, but please inform young families immediately so they can save their time and money and not be subjected to such rude behavior. And it’s not like we were hiding the baby…we arrived with a stroller.
The food also left much to be desired: the only dishes I would rate as acceptable were the side salads. But the much larger issue is the rude behavior...
Read moreI don’t know how the chefs at this restaurants managed to put so much love into their cooking but every dish I had felt like home.
Starting with a delicious hot cucumber soup laced with dill and sour pickles and cooked rice, I felt there was something special going on in the kitchen. Was it Instagramable? Not really and thank goodness. It tasted like real food for the soul.
I wasn’t prepared for how good my mains would be. I ordered crumbed pork cutlet with mash potato and fried cabbage (more like sauerkraut with fennel seed). I’ve tried crumbed cutlets all over the world. I’ve had the best Tonkatsu pork cutlets in Tokyo, German schnitzel, fancy French and Spanish versions and lots of pub versions back home. This pork cutlet was up there with the very best I’ve had anywhere. First, the crumb: it was crispy and flavoursome. It stuck to the cutlet as it should. It was light and dry. The cutlet itself was first class without any chewy sinews or greasy gristle.
The cutlet itself was tender and full of flavour. I’m guessing the chefs used some butter to finish the cutlet because it had that buttery sweetness that added to the overall flavour. It was actually a shock to start the dish because I’ve had so many awful versions of this simple dish that when I put my fork into it, I realised that this would be different. And it was.
Even my simple desert of fresh fruit and maple syrup was one of those dishes you dream of finding in restaurants but never do.
Value for money is exceptional. Service is attentive and friendly. The Polish craft beers were a bonus.
This is not a very fancy restaurant with white tablecloth and silverware. This is honest, delicious Polish food cooked by a kitchen that loves...
