This restaurant has by far the best Polish food I've ever tasted!
My partner and I visited Krakow for the first time last week and we were on the lookout for a place that did simple rustic Polish food, and Wiejskie Jadło absolutely did not disappoint. It's a little bit out of the way of the main street and you have to go down a little alleyway to find it, but it's so worth it as it's cosy and intimate and away from the main street.
(It is all outside seating but it just added to the overall ambience. It rained quite heavily when we visited the first time but the canape kept us dry and the rain only added to the overall cosy vibe.)
We ordered our mains and the waitress very kindly brought out a free starter to share - a board of bread, smalec (which is lard but tastes very different to how it does in the UK, surprisingly really nice!) and some large pickles. Really fresh and tasty!
Our mains came out really swiftly and we didn't have to wait long at all, but we wouldn't have minded since the place is so beautiful and has a lovely atmosphere. I would highly recommend getting the traditional hunter's stew (or in Polish, Żurek) and the pierogis with meat, really substantial and the portion sizes are very impressive :)
The staff couldn't have done enough for us and they speak immaculate English, they even have a whole menu in English to put your mind at rest. This is the perfect place for anyone visiting Krakow from an English speaking country who wants to try traditional Polish food without getting overwhelmed or confused by what to order. The prices are incredibly reasonable, we only spent the equivalent of £30 on almost a three course meal with drinks!
We even went back a second time the night before we were due to fly back to the UK and to top off the whole experience, they even had a lovely rose lady in traditional Polish dress circulate the tables selling roses which we were all too happy to purchase from :) One rose for only 19 zloty!
This is the easiest 5 star review I've ever given, thank you so much to the staff at Wiejskie Jadło for making our first ever trip abroad so special. We...

Would rate food prices as listed in the $$-$$$ range. Expected big portions like Polish restaurants of this ilk are known for, and they were BIG Ordered Schabowy (Pork cutlet) $12 USD, fantastic quality. 2 Potato Pancakes meal 8.25 USD + .75 cents for a 3rd!!! was a huge portion, very very happy and looking around other people's orders, general conclusion is you better come very hungry, expect a big meal, great value here particularly relative to nearby places. We did a walk around for comparison.
The mushroom sauce we ordered to use on Chicken cutlet was out of this world! If we had another day in Krakow we wouldve come back for their soups. The Mushroom is locally purchased according to owner and you can tell. major regret couldnt order mushroom soup.
Definitely place for a large group or family especially with kids that you'll get value for and quiet almost private for yourself in the back, just bring your own water for savings. Cannot comment on dessert, didnt have room left for it.
They do bring bread, smalec, pickles to table as appetizer, rare among non 4/5 star Polish restaurants
Note: in Europe water at the table is never free, but Pitcher of water was 5 euro/5 dollars which was very surprising. Buy your own bottles and bring with you in general but did not expect that as the...
Read moreA bit weird and average local restaurant. The food is tasty but service is weird.
We had a weird experience. We got there without reservation. Asked for place for two and they got us the last available table. We waited a waitress for a while to give our orders. Finally one of the waitresses came with and angry face and asked that it’s gonna take at least 45 minutes to prepare so are you sure about staying here. We said yes, no problem. The outside is rainy, all of the restaurants are full. It’s the best options for us. Then he left unhappy without taking our orders.
So we waited for a while again. At the end of 30 minutes from the beginning finally someone else came and took our orders. After that I saw the other angry man talked with this waitress and he became more unhappy.
Some time later angry man bring the starters. At the end of an hour from the beginning we got serve with our main meal.
The food was good, tasty. I can’t deny. There are plenty of Polish food options in the menu.
The best part when we asked for the bill. The angry man brought the bill. Made it clear that the service fee is not included. I paid by card and gave 20% tip which is not much in any case. Then suddenly this angry man became the most happy and talkative person ever. We had a chat for a while even after finishing...
