From the pictures, Ato Ramen looked very promising but unfortunately, photos aren’t everything.
Upon arrival, I was greeted by a rather unfriendly hostess/waitress, which immediately set a negative tone. I waited about five minutes before being told I could sit outside, which felt unnecessarily complicated and unwelcoming.
While reviewing the menu, I was surprised to find no tonkotsu ramen arguably the most basic and essential type of ramen you’d expect at any legitimate ramen shop. So, I went with my second choice: tantanmen.
The same rude waitress came over to take my order. I asked why tonkotsu wasn’t available, and she replied curtly that it was only served at their second location. She then started listing other specials, even after I told her I already knew what I wanted. The interaction felt forced and dismissive.
I also asked about a strange ingredient listed in the tantan ramen “lemon onions” and her answer was simply “they’re just onions.” In reality, they were lime-flavored red onions, which clashed harshly with the otherwise decent broth. The ramen was also lacking in key toppings like bok choy and bean sprouts, making it feel incomplete.
The final straw? They charged me 9 PLN for a glass of tap water. I wasn’t offered bottled water just plain tap and yet was charged like it was a premium drink. That’s simply unacceptable.
After I finished eating, my plate was cleared, but the check never arrived. The waitress walked past me multiple times, made eye contact, and still ignored me. When I finally stood up to go pay inside, she insisted I sit back down because I wasn’t allowed to pay at the register.
With over 3,000 reviews and a high rating, I had high expectations but I walked away completely disappointed. If this is what passes for good ramen in Wrocław, then I genuinely suggest trying somewhere else. I won’t...
Read more1: one of the best ramens by "Polish standards" (8/10); 7/10 on an obective/global scale. Portions are good, as is the choice of condiments. The taste is also good, but it feels like this "special something" is missing. All in all, knowing the owners from their previous restaurant, you can expect consistent quality over the years.
2: the opportunity to make a reservation is a must; I don't mind waiting in the summer, but surely you can't expect people to drive across town just to wait in the cold, wind & rain (as was the case yesterday). As good a ramen as you might have, having to jump through hoops will turn people away sooner or later. Do this at least out of respect for your customers (& if you want to build loyalty). Else people will try once, twice, & turn away the 3rd time. Hype is OK as long as you don't overdo it.
3: staff - helpful
4: space - they were sitting 2 people on the same side of a table which was clearly meant for 1 person. Cramming people like sardines is not the way to go. When we request for tables to be joined, the staff seemed surprised at the request & finally complied after my being quite vocal about the issue.
Will probably go back some time in the near future, as I hope reviews will be taken under consideration & constructive...
Read moreEver since I have been to Japan, I developed a taste for ramen and sushi and that quality is my benchmark for 5 stars.
I had the truffle ramen it was good overall.
All individual ingredients were excellent, however it clearly lacked some herbs and spices in the brooth compared to the ones in Japan so for those who are looking for an authentic Japanese Ramen it might feel a bit low on flavour and spices (also compared to my local Ramen place in Switzerland)
Also the mix was skewed towards noodles - e.g. instead of half an egg, there could have been two halfs etc..
Price wise everything in wroclaw felt cheap to me, but in comparison to other restaurants I would say is rather pricy for the setting.
The Lemonade was ok, I did not like the dessert - but that I would say is my personal preference.
Overall I would give it 3.5 stars if I could - Rounded to 4 because as said the individual Ramen ingredients are well cooked and of...
