We had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. • It took at least 15 minutes before anyone came to take our order, even though the restaurant wasn’t busy and no staff were present in the dining area • We were very clear when ordering that we wanted one very spicy green curry and one medium. The waiter confirmed he understood, even joking about it with us • When the food arrived, both curries were identical in spice level – both extremely hot. Several people at our table tried them and confirmed this. The waiter admitted he’d made a mistake, apologised, and took one away to “fix” it • Five minutes later, he returned with a dish that was now white, not green. It was obvious the curry hadn’t been remade – just heavily diluted with coconut milk. The flavour was gone, and it was still far spicier than medium. I was hungry, so I ordered another dish and waited again • By the time my new dish arrived, everyone else had nearly finished their meals. That dish was finally correct and tasted good, but the timing ruined the experience • When the bill came, we were still charged for the green curry that had been admitted as wrong. When I raised this, the waiter suddenly denied his earlier admission and loudly insisted the first dish was “medium”. This was blatantly untrue – and extremely disrespectful. In the end we were forced to pay half for a dish that was uneaten and poorly handled, on top of the replacement meal
Overall: • Food (when correct): 6–7/10 • Service: 1–2/10
What was most disappointing wasn’t just the mistakes, but the rudeness and dishonesty. Gaslighting a customer after admitting fault is unacceptable. Being a family-run restaurant does not excuse this behaviour. We left feeling frustrated, disrespected, and would not...
Read moreFirst, must say that the service is very polite and friendly. There is no doubt about that. My order was taken quickly and my drink and food were brought out shortly.
As with most Thai food, it can be adjusted. Since it didn’t specify on the menu, I asked what meat was with the pad see ew and he said he can of course adjust and cook it with beef.
Do take note, that the portion size was much smaller than expected. Furthermore I was a bit disappointed that the dish wasn’t charred which is usually a characteristic of this dish - it has a nice burnt-ish flavour. But this had none. It almost felt like a pad thai. Despite this, I have to say I was surprised at the generous amount of beef in the dish.
Other reviews have said that the dishes here are authentic Thai and perhaps this is true of the other dishes, but I don’t think this can be said of the pad see ew.
Other things to keep in mind - you are encouraged to pay with cash, but if you can’t, you can still pay with card.
Lastly, the area around the restaurant can be quiet but it is next to a road that can be busy and noisy with cars at times. So I would just keep that in mind as well.
It was an okay dining experience, but considering that I don’t have much time left on my holiday, I don’t think I will make a return to...
Read moreMixed feelings about this restaurante. A friend had recommended it and we trust his tastes, so we decided to try it for lunch. New place in an older building on the upper part of Old Town (near the escalator). The ladies that work here are pleasant and kind, seem to speak a limited amount of english and portuguese.
The food, while prepared well, was...a disappointment. Closest to "american thai" that we are used to that we've found in the Algarve, BUT, the portions are really small and pricey. I had shrimp pad thai with 2...count them, 2...small shrimps. The noodles, while flavorful, were barely warm and again, a small circle on the plate. Wish I had taken a picture. Husband had pork pad thai (medium) and he said the same thing. A few pieces of pork, overall dish was barely warm and wasn't very spicy. Both pad thai dishes were 12.90 euros.
Friends had chicken & cashew dish and green curry with chicken (which she said was unexpectedly very spicy). Again, their portions were small and prices were 15.90 and 16.90 euros. 3 spring rolls (cut into 6 pieces) -- which were wonderfully hot, packed with cabbage, and delicious! were 5 euros.
It's a shame, but at these prices and portion sizes, don't think we'll be back for...
