I recently visited Koa and while the food and service were decent, I couldn't help but be put off by one significant aspect - the intrusive sign at the entrance. The sign reads, "Aguarde por mesa aqui" (Wait for a table here), and it's placed right in front of the entrance, making it challenging for anyone to pass through the door smoothly.
The location of the sign felt poorly thought out, causing an unnecessary obstruction to the flow of guests entering and exiting the restaurant. It creates an awkward bottleneck, especially during peak hours when the restaurant is crowded. Numerous times, I witnessed people struggling to get in or out, and it marred the overall experience.
Moreover, the wording of the sign felt too commanding, and it lacked a friendly or welcoming tone. Instead of making guests feel comfortable while they wait for a table, it almost felt like an imposition, leaving little room for flexibility or individual preferences. A more inviting approach to notifying guests about waiting for a table would be much appreciated.
Despite the intrusive sign, I must highlight that the staff was polite and attentive, and the food was enjoyable. However, first impressions matter, and the negative impact of this sign can't be overlooked. I hope the management considers repositioning the sign to create a more inviting entrance and improve the overall flow of guests.
In conclusion, Koa has the potential to be a great lunch experience, but the intrusive sign at the entrance hinders that possibility. Addressing this issue would undoubtedly enhance the overall ambiance and leave guests with a more positive impression of the...
Read moreA few things went wrong here during the 2 visits I paid them: first of all on both occasions I ordered vegan pancakes and I was overcharged: the price on the menu says 5,50€ but when you go and pay it's magically 6,50€ for no reason (I didn't ask for any extra ingredient, of course). Second thing: if you are lactose intolerant or vegan, they overcharge you €0,50 for plant-based alternatives, even for soya milk, which costs like normal milk at the supermarket. And for the oat milk, at the supermarket 1 litre of organic oat milk costs €1,29: why aren't you first removing the price for dairy milk from the basic price of a drink and then add maximum 15 cents? Padaria Portuguesa offers almond milk at no extra charge - take their example. Honestly, between the scam on the vegan pancakes and the plant-based milk I feel like they are targeting vegans. Third: the first time I got a pancake there it was really good, but the second time there were just a few pieces of fruit and only one filling, compared to the 2 fillings they previously used. When we asked the waiter for explanation he said that they "changed the recipe" meaning they're saving up on the ingredients. But you still pay the overcharged...
Read moreWife and I have been traveling for over 4 years around the world. Wife is a digital nomad so we are always looking for a place to set up shop with wifi, great food and welcoming people.
Koa has all that and more!! One of the best cafes we have been to in all our years of travel! Go to place when in Lisbon! They have such delicious and beautiful meals (thanks Nanda and Joana)! Plus, Joana allowed me to bring in protein powder so her and her team could add it to my smoothies. Then, because she is also a trained make-up artist, she made up my wife like a model so I could take professional headshots of her to post on her web pages and book. Wife never looked better!!!
Add in the fact they have live music, great drinks (thanks Juan), unbelievable service (Carlos and Maria) plus they all speak English like native speakers.
Have the pancakes, sandwiches and smoothies! You will love them and have...
