O Mercado — Restaurant in Almada

I have truly come to appreciate O Mercado in Costa da Caparica. This charming establishment has become a personal favorite, and I find myself returning here multiple times throughout the year. The ambiance is warm and inviting, and the staff's impeccable service enhances the overall experience.

During our last visit, we were keen to secure a reservation even though the place was closed at the time. To our delight, the chef and owner kindly accommodated our request and reserved a lovely table for us. Their genuine hospitality made us feel valued and welcomed.

O Mercado consistently delivers excellence in every aspect of their offerings. However, I must mention that due to one particular dish, the mouthwatering lombo de vaca (beef tenderloin), being absent from the menu for the past two years, I have to give the food a rating of 4/5. It used to be the highlight of my dining experience here and has been hard to find elsewhere in Costa da Caparica.

I sincerely hope to see the return of this delectable dish to O Mercado's menu. I have the utmost confidence in the culinary team's skill and believe that the reintroduction of lombo de vaca would undoubtedly elevate the dining experience.

Tourist here: The food was very good and staff were friendly. Staff spoke some English and were very helpful offering suggestions for local favorites. The menu is available in English as well but it is always helpful to know some Portuguese. I got the Tuna Steak, it came with a Mango ceviche and thinly sliced and fried sweet potato. The tuna was very well prepared and was well complimented by the ceviche. My husband got the Chuck steak medium rare and it was perfectly cooked, delicious and came with french fries. We ordered the fried green beans served with BBQ sauce and its the only thing that we weren’t in love with. We also ordered the red fruit sangria which was good but a little on the sweet side. A superb discovery: fusion Asian/South-American/Portuguese cuisine mastering all the dishes. I loved the grilled octopus there, and came back twice to try other tasty dishes. I would pass on the aubergine nuggets unless you’re vegan; I enjoyed their take on salmon tartare in the shape of marinated sashimi.
