I was very happy when i made the booking reservation for dinner with my family who came from Dubai for holidays in Cascais. Unfortunately it was a complete disappointment! Things can go wrong in any place, what makes difference is how you handle it. The staff no words for their poor behaviour. I made 3 remarks regarding the food: i) we politely asked not to put too much tomato sauce in the bolognese pasta and the waiter, in a very rude way, told us that the dish was already made! How come in a restaurant like this with a "so called amazing chef" do not prepare dishes until it is order.... ii) orange juice with lobwarms. The children dislike it and didn't want to eat the rest of their dinner... no kind words from the room manager... iii) we order seafood plate apart from other dishes. I told the waiter the shrimp was overcooked! And the answer was... So what?!?!... Next day i called the recepcionist who was very polite but since than no contact from the responsible of the restaurant or the so called amazin' top Chef. My family from Dubai are used to Michelin stars restaurants and luxurious top hotels as these are their work there and they finished their last day in low level restaurant in Cascais. It's a shame in this kind of place to have such a awful services and...
Read moreI was here for lunch with my tour group. It was suggested by my tour guide.
Service was great. They promised to separate checks from the beginning, and they delivered. We had four separate checks!
Prawn curry with cashew rice (caril de camarão com arroz de caju) was 28,50€. This tasted more like Indian curry than Thai curry. The prawns were fresh. I would get this again. One thing I wish they didn’t add - the coconut flakes - because they were hard and chewy and didn’t taste good. It came with some farinha, which the server told me to add on top of the rice and not mix into the curry.
Fish of the day and shrimp “moqueca” (moqueca de peixe do dia e camarão) was 23,50€. The server was telling me this was a good choice. Between the two dishes though, I enjoyed the curry more. The fish was delicious and the dish was well cooked, don’t get me wrong. The curry was more flavorful.
Other people in our group got the steak, sea bass, and sea bream. The fish had bones, they said, but tasted good. I feel the prices are higher here - maybe because it’s at a prime location by the beach. Not sure I would come back, but I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for good food...
Read moreWell, we were quite a bit disappointed. We moved to Cascais back in 2015 and we are very fond of Cascais story so we were expecting the iconic meaning of the building to be respected or at least, honored. A place to go with the family, as when the Fisherman’s left Cascais bay in the dawn and would come back with fish on the fishing boats. There, where the Lota still stands and where the families would go to buy their fish. Lota was the heart of all in Cascais. By the fishermen, for the people.
Considering iconic meaning, the story and the place, we were expecting something a little bit less pretentious and a little bit more like Mercado da Ribeira ?
The place is decorated like those kinda "wannabe places". Aiming to be fancy? Guess yes by the prices of the menu (starter of marinated fish €19,50, main course shrimp curry €28,50 per person).
In our opinion there is no” WOW” factor in any of it: gastronomic concept, food, drinks, environment or decoration.
We went there thinking on having lunch but after the first impression and after reading some other reviews, we preferred to go to somewhere else.
The staff...
