Our hotel made our reservation. This town has some pretty cool winding streets and stairs. When we got here, we were greeted by someone who we found out later was the owner. He had the most welcoming warm smile, like we knew each other from years gone by. All of the service staff were friendly and patient with us as we do not speak Portuguese. They even helped with the proper pronunciation of "thank you" for me and women. Now the food, OMG. I have never tasted food this fresh and delicious. I only wish my stomach was bigger. I don't think this place would know how to prepare a bad meal or treat a customer poorly. The server stopped by on his way home to ensure we were ok. He chatted to us for close to 20 minutes until we finally told him he needs to get home to his family. (In our opinion, he looked like a young Clive Owen) Then the owner came out and asked if everything was ok, we were the second last table. Again we raved about how fantastic it was and did let him know his server explained how he is the first one in, last one there and is constantly working hard to improve the restaurant. I'm sure he doesn't hear that often but we thought we should share how incredibly happy his staff are. He then brought us out a glass of port each to fi. Thanksnish our meal. This was by far the best place we have been to on this trip. The bar has been set extremely high. If we had more time, we would definitely go back to try some of the other dishes that sounded very tasty. I wish we had something like this in Canada. Thank you again to the staff at Sete for making our dinner very special and...
Read moreThis was one of the best restaurant experiences in Coimbra. They have an excellent wine selection, and the staff knows their wines. We had a very helpful waiter/sommelier. We had vegetarian feijoada as our appetizer, which was spectacular. Our main dishes were lamb shank and risotto with sardines. The lamb was perfectly cooked but the chestnut purée it was on could use a bit more imagination. If you are going into the trouble of puréing the chestnuts, they should at least taste a little better than plain chestnuts. In this case, just chestnuts would have been better. Risotto with sardines is just risotto (very soupy), very plain and sardines wrapped in filo and fried. Well sardines would have been a great appetizer just the way they prepared them. The soupy risotto did not really add much to the dish. For desert, we had the pudding and the chocolate cake. If you are looking for the Brazilian pudding, this is not it but it is still a very good desert. Chocolate cake was a bit like a brownie but it was good. All in all, this was a great dining experience. My comments are really intended as feedback to the chef. This is...
Read moreWe visited Sete Restaurant for the first time on the recommendation of our tour guide, and it exceeded our expectations. From the moment we arrived, the service was exceptional and incredibly welcoming. We were seated on the patio, which offered a quaint view of the charming streets of Coimbra—perfect for an outdoor dining experience.
The food was excellent! We shared several dishes, starting with the summer cold soup, gazpacho, which was refreshing and full of flavor. The crispy sardines were perfectly fried and light, followed by a delicious bacalhau (cod) dish that was tender and seasoned just right. For dessert, we shared the panna cotta, which was a delightful finish to the meal.
One standout feature was that the staff split all the dishes for us without us even asking—something that added a thoughtful touch to the service. The attention to detail and the attentiveness of the staff made our experience even more enjoyable.
Overall, Sete Restaurant is a must-visit when you’re in Coimbra. With its fantastic food, great service, and lovely terrace view, it’s a dining experience we...
