Restaurant Jardim da Manga — Restaurant in Coimbra

The ‘Jardim da Manga’ is a restaurant situated in the heart of Coimbra. It is the favorite dining place for locals and tourists.

As you enter the place you are welcomed by a magnificent setting, a delightful marriage of historical monuments and the luxuries of modernity.  Sitting in any table you have a wonderful view of the beautiful architecture.

The menu offers a wide variety of mouth-watering starters. I had a variety of starters and each came with it’s unique delicious flavors and for my main dish I had “Costuleta com batata frita,” which paired very well with the beer “Super Buck.”

We had a group event. In the beginning we spotted that our table had a bit of a higher price than the other group event happening at the table beside us, with a dinner option that was never offered to us. The food was good enough, but the wine bottles were already open and they admitted that the bottles were from a "boxed wine" (they seemed to be watered down also). The water bottles were full but not sealed and had a funny taste. Besides, the employee made our English speaking friends "speak Portuguese or they would not be served". Relaxed and friendly restaurant overlooking the Jardim de Manga - a national monument which was once part of the monastery. This gives it a very calm feel while still remaining lively.

The restaurant offers self-service or regular table service. The food is very good, and the prices reasonable. We went there with two small children, and the waiter was very helpful.

Overall it’s a very typical Portuguese family-friendly restaurant offering great food, and popular at lunchtimes with local office workers.
