Restaurante O Pátio — Restaurant in Coimbra

I went in this restaurant with my.boyfrend because our host suggested us to go there and ask for the 8 Euro menu. We asked the waiter if he could speak English (we are italian) and he said no. We tried to ask in Portuguese (using our knowledge of the language and google translator) about the 8 Euro menu and the waiter appeard annoyed about our request. Then I said I was celiac and if in the menu there was something gluten free: I received no answer (neither in Portuguese!), just a shrung of shoulder of the waiter. An authentic restaurant in Pátio da Inquisição. Genuine service. Delicious mains ( we had grilled mackerel and last time grilled sardines ), equally good jug of red wine ( a caneca ), and scrumptious deserts. The restaurant has 10 tables on the south facing patio and about 20 inside. When we arrived the patio was full, but the waiter went to the store cupboard and set another table for us. All for 20 euros for two people, amazing. The Restaurant O Patio is a lovely experience on a sunny day. Parking is for 12 cars on the patio, otherwise good parking for 50 spaces at the nearby council...

Come to this place if you want to be disrespected. We waited for 25 minutes without even being acknowledged. We understood it was a busy night, so we approached the bar, asked for the menu, and patiently waited to be served, considering it seemed like a college-night celebration. Unfortunately, this establishment seems to believe it’s too good for paying customers.

I strongly recommend against supporting this kind of behavior. There are plenty of great places in Coimbra where you can enjoy a proper meal and be treated with the hospitality this city is known for—sadly, this was not...
