Combo Coimbra — Restaurant in Coimbra

I was hoping for more. The Samosas were excellent it’s a shame there’s no meat option. The Onion Bhaji are second to none as is the Peshwari Nan and Roti. The Tarka Dhal was nice. The Lamb Biryani was OK but the meat was over cooked. The chicken with lemon was ok if you like a very mild curry. My Chicken Tikka Jalfrezi was a big disappointment. It was no where near spicy enough to be called a Jalfrezi and like every other Indian style restaurant in Portugal they called oven cooked marinated chicken ‘tikka’. The chicken is not Tikka as it’s not cooked a Tandoor. The chicken was pleasant but should not be called tikka. The chef is a really nice guy as is the woman that takes the order. However she doesn’t speak Português or fluent English which made ordering difficult. With all the criticism I have made - for Portugal it’s still ok for an average curry. I don't like giving a bad review, however in this case I honestly feel the ratings and reviews are made up by friends etc or ownership must have changed recently. I went there based on the reviews and ratings and it doesn't come close to those ratings.The food quality is very poor. Lamb korma was mostly bone with a few pieces of really tough meat that looked like offcuts, sincerely doubt it was lamb. The sauce was powdery. My wife chose a chicken dish. Again mostly bones from the chicken neck and wings also with a powdery sauce. With no side dishes and 1 beer the bill was €30.50. We like Indian restaurants and have eaten at many, this one...

My partner and I were staying nearby and had just flown in from the US. Our expectations were low—we just wanted food. So we saw this place was a few minutes from us and decided to try it out. Are we glad we did. The food was fantastic, so fresh you could taste every vegetable. The owner made sure to ask about our vegan preferences, and also suggested a little bit to add to our dishes to give it some extra flavor.

The owner and his wife were fantastic hosts, we felt very welcomed and they were very charming. Highly recommended, you get excellent food for excellent prices and receive excellent service. We will come by again before we...
