Top food in a central location, we happened to see the chef outside as we were checking the menu & he suggested we give him our reservation, so glad we did, there are only 6 or 7 tables inside and maybe 3 outside. The dining area is small but did not seem crowded, really well laid out. Service is unobtrusive, professional and helpful. Our waitress suggested an excellent red wine to pair with my roasted goat & the wine matched beautifully with the deliciously tender braised goat. My wife liked the roasted pork neck loin, tender and full of flavor, both dishes came with good vegetable & potato sides. We shared a very well dressed mixed salad, plenty for 2, and a decent bread, oil, butter and olive appetizer which I might skip if I return, a bit overpriced at 7 Euros. We also split a large water with gas and enjoyed a complimentary chef prepared apple, pumpkin, croissant? appetizer, a creative highlight and a complementary digestif of the local sour cherry liquor. We also enjoyed a dinner long conversation with a fascinating, solo diner walking the pilgrim route to Spain. It is that kind of atmosphere. All this for 65 euros, a wonderful value given the skill of the chef and the quality of the ingredients. Highly...

My friend and I have had the pleasure of dining at "No Tacho Cozinha Portuguesa" not once, but twice. The first visit was undoubtedly the standout of the two, although both experiences had their merits. Interestingly, on both occasions, we ended up selecting the same dishes.

One consistent aspect worth mentioning is the restaurant's staff. They have a friendly and attentive demeanor, and their proficiency in English is certainly appreciated.

Now, let's talk wine. On both visits, we found a pleasing array of wine options, adding a delightful touch to the meal.

As for the food, we were particularly impressed with the beef preparations. However, during our second visit, there was a minor hiccup with my steak – these things happen. Nevertheless, they promptly rectified the situation, and the second iteration of the steak turned out quite satisfactory.

In a nutshell, "No Tacho Cozinha Portuguesa" has proven to be a reliable choice, with a friendly staff, good wine selection, and delectable beef dishes. While the first visit edged out the second, it's a place we're inclined to revisit for its consistently enjoyable Portuguese...

Visiting Portugal. Coimbra. Tacho is a hole in the wall restaurant with a custom high class feel and yet a relaxed atmosphere. The chef generated a beautiful presentation on all courses. First came a toasted prociuto over sweet green melon drizzled with a light oil. Can I say that it melts in your mouth with crunchy prociuto to contrast. I wish I could die with that flavor... Then I'd be ready to go heaven. Sweet potato soup was creamy yet non viscous. Maybe it stand to be more viscous, nevertheless, that is a matter of preference. I digress, that soup is fabulous, an even flavor with that has depth yet is in the continuation of its simple format. I'm writing this now and yet have not finished all my courses. So, you can imagine how I feel about this food. Alert, all foodies cone to this restaurant. You will not be disappointed. Love for Food, Striker

Nice place but i expected something more. The chef offered us 2 spoons of a tartare of cucumber, pinapple and ham. We choosed a sort of ceviche and an octopus salad as entrées, very good but also very small. Then we ordered a confit cod, which tasted like a normal cod, with quenelles of mashed potatoes, not so tasty, and an octopus, good but not a generous portion, with a potato pie, also this not so tasteful. With the bread, a bottle of water and one of wine we paid too much, i guess, for what we ate and for the average of prices in Coimbra, that is 86€.
